Indian equity markets opened on a strong note on Wednesday, supported by easing global geopolitical tensions, lower crude oil prices, and positive cues from international markets. Investors also remained focused on the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decision, scheduled to be announced later in the day.
At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex surged 626.43 points (0.80%) to 79,055.38, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 54.30 points (0.22%) to trade at 24,669.20.
Realty and Infrastructure Stocks Lead the Rally
Market gains were primarily driven by strong buying in real estate and infrastructure stocks.

Investors Await RBI MPC Decision
Market participants are closely watching the RBI’s monetary policy announcement, expected at 10:00 AM, for signals on interest rates and the central bank’s outlook on inflation and economic growth.
According to market experts, investor sentiment also improved after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that a deal with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could be reached soon.
The optimism pushed crude oil prices lower, a positive development for India, which imports more than 80% of its crude oil requirements.

Most major Asian markets were trading in positive territory:

U.S. markets also ended Tuesday’s session with strong gains:

Crude Oil Prices Decline
International oil prices continued to ease:
- Brent Crude: Down 1.35% at $78.29 per barrel
- WTI Crude: Down 1.68% at $74.50 per barrel
Lower crude prices are generally considered supportive for India’s inflation outlook and trade balance.
FIIs Continue Buying Indian Equities
Foreign investors remained net buyers in the Indian market.
On Tuesday:
- Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs): Bought equities worth ₹2,446.47 crore
- Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs): Sold equities worth ₹936.14 crore
