Senior Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has been entrusted with the Education Ministry following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Prahlad Joshi Expresses Gratitude to Prime Minister Modi
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi after the announcement, Prahlad Joshi said he had just been informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had entrusted him with the important responsibility.
“I accept this responsibility with a sense of duty, humility, and full commitment. I am grateful to the Prime Minister for placing his trust in me,” Joshi said.
He added that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the Union government has achieved several significant milestones over the past 12 years and expressed confidence that the government’s reform agenda would continue.
Joshi Praises Dharmendra Pradhan’s Contribution
The newly appointed Education Minister also acknowledged the work carried out by his predecessor, Dharmendra Pradhan, particularly in advancing the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).
Joshi said Pradhan had played a key role in driving important education reforms over the past several years and expressed his commitment to carrying forward those initiatives.
He said the ministry would continue working under the Prime Minister’s guidance to strengthen India’s education system and implement ongoing policy reforms.
Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation
According to the information provided by the government, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister on Saturday following protests related to examination paper leak issues.
Following his resignation, Prahlad Joshi was assigned additional charge of the Ministry of Education, ensuring continuity in the ministry’s functioning while retaining his existing ministerial responsibilities.
President Accepts Resignation Under Article 75(2)
An official statement from the President’s Office said that President Droupadi Murmu, acting on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accepted Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation with immediate effect under Article 75(2) of the Constitution of India.
The statement also confirmed that Prahlad Joshi would hold additional charge of the Ministry of Education while continuing as the Union Minister responsible for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
Officials said the interim arrangement has been made to ensure that the ministry’s work continues without disruption.
Existing Portfolios Retained
In addition to overseeing the Education Ministry, Prahlad Joshi will continue handling his existing responsibilities as the Union Minister for:
- Consumer Affairs
- Food and Public Distribution
The dual-charge arrangement is expected to remain in place until the government announces any long-term restructuring of the Education Ministry.
Focus on National Education Policy
