Ram Janmabhoomi Trust Investigation

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi have jointly written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the government to order an independent and comprehensive investigation into the financial management of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

In their letter, the two Congress leaders alleged financial irregularities involving the Trust and said the matter should be investigated transparently to maintain public confidence. The allegations remain unproven, and no court has established wrongdoing by the Trust.

Congress Calls for Independent Financial Audit

According to the joint letter, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi said that millions of devotees had donated money to the Trust in good faith and that concerns over the handling of donations should be addressed through an impartial investigation.

They urged the Prime Minister to order an inquiry covering the management of:

  • Cash donations
  • Gold offerings
  • Silver offerings
  • Other financial assets and contributions received by the Trust

The Congress leaders also called for the investigation report and the Trust’s financial accounts to be made public in the interest of transparency.

Questions Raised Over Trust’s Governance

In the letter, the Congress leaders noted that the Trust was constituted following the Supreme Court’s directions and announced by the Union government in Parliament.

They further stated that the Trust’s members were appointed by the government and referred to the affiliations of some members with organizations such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). They also mentioned former Trust General Secretary Champat Rai in the context of their criticism.

These statements reflect the views expressed by the Congress leadership in the letter.

Demand for Transparency and Accountability

Kharge and Rahul Gandhi argued that transparency is essential to preserve the confidence of devotees who contributed to the construction of the Ram Temple.

They requested that anyone found responsible for financial misconduct, if established through an investigation, should face legal action regardless of their position or influence.

According to the letter, the credibility of both the Trust and the Central Government would depend on how the matter is addressed.

No Official Response Yet

At the time of publication, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had not publicly responded to the contents of the Congress leaders’ letter.

There has also been no official announcement from the government regarding an independent investigation based on the request.
