Priyanka Gandhi Hockey Jersey Row: Congress MP Criticizes Saffron Jersey Decision, Targets BJP, RSS and Raises Pellet Gun Allegations
Priyanka Gandhi Hockey Jersey Row intensified on Thursday after Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the reported decision to change the Indian national hockey team’s jersey color from blue to saffron. Addressing reporters during the ongoing Parliament Monsoon Session, she accused the ruling BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of attempting to reshape the country’s identity while also questioning the government over the alleged use of pellet guns against protesters.
Her remarks came amid continued political exchanges in Parliament over multiple issues, including student protests and policing.
Priyanka Gandhi Questions Hockey Jersey Color Change
Responding to reports about the jersey color change, Priyanka Gandhi said altering symbols or revising historical narratives would not change the sentiments of India’s youth.
“Whether they change the color of the jersey or attempt to rewrite history through the education policy, the voice of the country’s youth cannot be ignored. You have seen what the young people gathered at Jantar Mantar are saying. That is the voice of India,” she said.
Congress MP Targets RSS Over Freedom Movement
Priyanka Gandhi also criticized the RSS while referring to India’s freedom struggle.
She said the country’s independence movement was built on the principles of truth and non-violence, adding that the movement was led by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress.
“The foundation of India’s freedom struggle was based on non-violence and truth. The RSS had no role in that struggle. The entire country knows this, and more people are now understanding its intentions,” she said.
‘India’s Spirit Cannot Be Taken Away’
The Congress leader said the country’s core values remain rooted in brotherhood, unity, love, truth, and non-violence.
“The soul of this nation is built on non-violence, truth, and harmony. Neither the RSS nor anyone else can take that away. Regardless of attempts to create divisions, spread hatred, or promote violence, the spirit of India will endure,” she said.
Raises Questions Over Alleged Pellet Gun Use
Priyanka Gandhi also questioned the government over allegations that pellet guns were used during action against protesters.
Referring to photographs displayed by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, she asked:
“Rahul Gandhi showed the injuries across a young man’s body. Where did those pellet marks come from? Did they fall from the sky?”
The Congress has repeatedly demanded accountability and an independent investigation into the alleged use of pellet guns during the incident.
The government has not responded to Priyanka Gandhi’s latest remarks in the material provided.
