PM Modi Chandigarh Visit : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for road, healthcare, housing, railway, and infrastructure projects worth more than ₹6,600 crore during his visit to Chandigarh and Punjab. Later, he traveled to Jalandhar, where he addressed a public gathering and launched several major railway initiatives aimed at improving connectivity across northern India.
During his speech, the Prime Minister also launched sharp political attacks on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab and the Congress, accusing them of failing to ensure development and maintain law and order in the state.
PM Modi Criticizes Law and Order Situation in Punjab
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi alleged that Punjab was witnessing increasing gang violence and drug-related crime.
He claimed that gang wars were taking place in the state, narcotics traffickers were operating openly, and Punjab’s youth were being pushed toward drug addiction.
The Prime Minister also criticized the ruling AAP government, saying that while it was making claims about changing national politics, it had failed to address key governance challenges in Punjab.
These remarks reflect the Prime Minister’s political criticism during the event.
Attack on AAP Government
Continuing his criticism of the Punjab government, Modi alleged that the AAP administration was taking credit for welfare and development schemes funded by the central government.
He claimed the state government was placing its own branding on centrally sponsored initiatives instead of properly acknowledging federal support.
Congress Also Comes Under Fire
The Prime Minister also targeted the Congress party, saying internal leadership disputes continued to dominate the party.
According to Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains committed to accelerating Punjab’s development through infrastructure and connectivity projects.
Pays Tribute to Sardar Teja Singh Samundri
During his address, Modi paid tribute to Sardar Teja Singh Samundri on the occasion of his 100th death anniversary, remembering his contribution to Sikh history and public service.
Honored by Punjab BJP Leadership
Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon honored the Prime Minister with a traditional shawl and a portrait of Maharaja Ranjit Singh during the public function.
Modi was also seen wearing a traditional green turban as part of the ceremonial welcome.
Projects Worth Thousands of Crores Launched
The Prime Minister inaugurated railway and road infrastructure projects valued at approximately ₹5,470 crore and also virtually inaugurated 75 Amrit Bharat railway stations across the country.
The projects are aimed at strengthening transportation infrastructure, improving passenger facilities, and supporting regional economic development.
New Train Services Flagged Off
Modi flagged off multiple railway services, including:
- Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Express
- Amritsar–Varanasi Express
- Kartoli Punjab–Ambala Express
- Daulatpur Chowk–Kartoli Punjab New Rail Line
According to the government, these projects will enhance rail connectivity between Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, while improving passenger mobility and regional trade.
Interaction With Children and Religious Leaders
The Prime Minister interacted with children traveling aboard the Amritsar–Varanasi Express and also met Sant Niranjan Das during the railway inauguration ceremony.
Arrival at Jalandhar Cantonment
Later in the day, Modi arrived at Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station, where he was welcomed by local cultural groups and supporters.
He was accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu.
The Prime Minister greeted people gathered at the station by waving to the crowd before proceeding with the day’s scheduled events.
