NEW DELHI, India | October 10, 2026 — A disputed financial proposal sits at the center of the Elon Musk NDA claim: Ashley St. Clair says she was offered $15 million upfront and $100,000 a month for 21 years to remain silent about her relationship with the billionaire. Musk has publicly denied that she received such an offer.
The payments described by St. Clair would total $40.2 million over the full period. She says she rejected the proposed nondisclosure agreement because its restrictions would have extended beyond public statements to conversations within her family.
In an interview published Friday by The New York Times, the former conservative social media influencer, who shares a child with Musk, described the alleged arrangement as a choice between substantial financial security and the ability to speak about her own experiences.
The central allegation remains disputed. The interview account does not establish that Musk personally approved the terms St. Clair described.
What the alleged $40.2 million proposal included
According to St. Clair, the proposal consisted of two financial components: a $15 million lump sum and monthly payments of $100,000 for 21 years.
Those monthly payments would amount to $25.2 million across 252 months. Combined with the upfront sum, the alleged arrangement would reach $40.2 million.
That figure represents the total value of the proposal she describes—not an amount she says she received under an accepted agreement.
St. Clair said Jared Birchall, Musk’s financial manager, sent the proposed document through the encrypted messaging app Signal approximately two months after she gave birth in 2024.
She alleged that the agreement would have prevented her from discussing Musk and their relationship indefinitely, including with family members. She also said its restrictions would have applied to her heirs.
St. Clair said provisions involving her children were among the reasons she refused to sign.
Musk’s denial remains central to the dispute
Musk previously rejected the allegation publicly on X, saying St. Clair had never received the offer she described. He also challenged her credibility.
According to the newspaper, Musk did not comment in response to questions for the latest interview.
His earlier denial and his reported lack of a response to the interview are separate developments. Neither resolves the disagreement over whether the proposed agreement existed in the form St. Clair describes or who authorized its terms.
Why she is speaking publicly now
The interview arrives as St. Clair appears in Musk, a nearly four-hour documentary directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney.
The film examines Musk’s private life, business interests and public influence. St. Clair said her decision to participate reflected growing concerns about the relationship between wealth, power and public trust.
She described becoming uncomfortable with the idea that financial success should lead people to accept a powerful individual’s judgment without scrutiny.
Musk has criticized the documentary, arguing that it relies heavily on people who resent him or do not know him well.
That disagreement places the film within the broader dispute over how Musk’s conduct and influence should be portrayed.
From online contact to a private relationship
St. Clair said Musk contacted her on Twitter, now X, in 2023. At the time, she had developed an audience through conservative political commentary and worked for the satirical publication The Babylon Bee.
According to her account, regular conversations eventually developed into a private relationship.
She said they discussed having a child during a January 2024 trip to St. Barts. Although she initially viewed the relationship positively, she said her concerns grew over time, including after learning more about Musk’s custody dispute with singer Grimes.
These details reflect St. Clair’s account of the relationship.
A political shift beyond the personal dispute
St. Clair also discussed moving away from the Trump-aligned political movement she once supported.
She expressed regret over past positions and statements involving race, gender and transgender people. She said that change developed gradually and was not solely a consequence of her conflict with Musk.
Her interview therefore addresses two connected developments: her allegations about a proposed confidentiality agreement and her reassessment of the political identity that helped build her public profile.
What the claim establishes—and what remains disputed
The financial calculation is straightforward: the terms St. Clair describes add up to $40.2 million. The underlying offer is contested.
Her account should not be treated as evidence that an agreement was signed, that the full amount was paid or that Musk personally authorized the alleged restrictions.
For readers, that distinction is essential. The story concerns a disputed proposal and competing public accounts, alongside a documentary bringing renewed attention to the influence of wealth and confidentiality in private relationships.
