Parivartan Inspire Award to Sehgal Foundation’s founder and chairperson, Dr. Suri Sehgal

The founder and chairperson of S M Sehgal Foundation, Dr. Suri Sehgal, was recognized with the Parivartan Inspire Awards-2019 for his leadership, dedication, and devotion to empowering rural communities in India. S M Sehgal Foundation (Sehgal Foundation), a rural development NGO established in 1999 as a public charitable trust to strengthen community-led development across rural India, has completed twenty years of work in partnership with rural communities under his guidance and inspiring leadership.

The award was presented at a large gathering at the Free Enterprise Day celebrations held at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi on November 3, 2019, by Parivartan, an initiative by Britt Worldwide to inspire social change and empower people to live better lives. The annual Inspire Awards are aimed at social transformation actions and selfless work for the betterment of people and the world at large. Sehgal Foundation Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Anjali Makhija, and Chief Development Officer, Ms. Anjali Godyal, accepted the award on behalf of Dr. Sehgal.

Ms. Makhija described Sehgal Foundation’s journey under the leadership of Dr. Sehgal and the values of integrity, professionalism, excellence, and optimism that bind people together and guide the team in their work. The foundation has come a long way from work in four villages to more than 890 villages across 27 districts in eight states of India. The work continues to grow as a third decade begins. Ms. Makhija provided an overview of Sehgal Foundation projects and interventions that include integrated grassroots programs in agriculture development, water management, and rural governance, emphasizing innovation, impact, and sustainability, with an overarching focus on the empowerment of girls and women. Key aspects of each program culminate in the Transform Lives one school at a time program, which is giving hope for a better future to India’s rural schoolchildren.
