India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 registration has officially opened for 23,757 Gramin Dak Sevak vacancies, creating one of the biggest job opportunities this year for Class 10 pass candidates looking for postal-sector employment across India.
The Department of Posts has activated the One-Time Registration process on Monday, August 31. However, candidates should note an important distinction: registration is open now, while the actual online application and fee-payment window will begin on September 2, 2026.
The recruitment covers Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak posts across postal circles in the country.

Candidates applying under the new Schedule-II recruitment must register afresh. Registration numbers created under earlier GDS recruitment schedules will not be valid for this cycle.

The recruitment is particularly attractive for candidates because the basic educational qualification is Class 10.
Applicants must have passed the Secondary School Examination from a recognised board with Mathematics and English.
They must also have studied the prescribed local language for the postal circle concerned up to the required level.

The general age limit is 18 to 40 years as on September 21, 2026, while eligible reserved-category candidates will receive age relaxation according to applicable rules.

No Written Exam: How Will GDS Selection Work?
One of the biggest attractions of India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 is that candidates will not have to appear for a separate competitive written examination.
The Department of Posts will prepare a system-generated merit list based primarily on Class 10 marks.
Marks are calculated according to the prescribed rules and percentage is worked out up to four decimal places.
Shortlisted applicants will subsequently have to complete document verification and other pre-engagement requirements.
This makes Class 10 performance extremely important. Candidates should therefore enter marks, grades and other educational information exactly as shown in their official certificates.

The remuneration is paid as Time Related Continuity Allowance, or TRCA.

Gramin Dak Sevaks are not regular Central Government employees, and their pay, allowances and service conditions are therefore different from those applicable to regular departmental employees.

Candidates selected as BPM may also be required to arrange suitable accommodation for operating the Branch Post Office according to India Post rules.
