AHMEDABAD, India | September 1, 2026 —
IIM Ahmedabad’s 2026 placement numbers have delivered a striking new milestone, with the institute’s highest international Maximum Earning Potential (MEP) reaching $243,000 — roughly ₹2.31 crore — the highest international MEP reported by the institute since the Indian Placement Reporting Standards framework began in 2011.
The latest placement-report data for the flagship Post Graduate Programme also shows strong domestic compensation, with the highest domestic MEP reaching ₹81.6 lakh.
Meanwhile, consulting remained the biggest hiring engine by volume, while banking and financial services continued to offer some of the strongest compensation in the domestic market.
The numbers provide a detailed picture of where India’s top management talent is finding opportunities — and which sectors are willing to pay the most.
IIM Ahmedabad Placements 2026: Key Numbers
The latest placement data shows:
- Highest international MEP: $243,000
- Approximate reported rupee equivalent: ₹2.31 crore
- Highest domestic MEP: ₹81.6 lakh
- Domestic median MEP: Around ₹37 lakh
- International offers accepted: 6
- Companies participating: 182
- Roles offered: Around 267
- Consulting offers: 155
- BFSI offers: 82
- IT offers: 34
- Business conglomerate offers: 34
The numbers underline the premium that global recruiters continue to place on management talent from IIM Ahmedabad.
₹2.31 Crore International MEP Came From Dubai
The top international earning potential was linked to an IT-sector business development role in Dubai.
At $243,000, the MEP exceeded IIM Ahmedabad’s previous international record of $192,581 reported in 2014.
Dubai was also the biggest international destination in the 2026 placement data.
Of the six international placements, four were in Dubai, while Hong Kong and Japan accounted for one each.
International opportunities came from sectors including IT, BFSI, retail and business conglomerates.
However, one important distinction needs to be understood.
₹2.31 Crore Is MEP — Not Simply Fixed Salary
The headline figure should not automatically be interpreted as a ₹2.31 crore fixed annual salary.
IIM Ahmedabad reports compensation under the Maximum Earning Potential framework.
MEP is broader than basic or fixed salary and can include eligible compensation components beyond annual fixed cash.
That makes it important for students comparing MBA placement figures across institutions to check whether a number represents:
- Fixed salary
- Guaranteed cash
- One-time joining payments
- Performance-linked compensation
- Maximum earning potential
Two institutes reporting apparently similar “packages” may therefore be using different compensation definitions.
For prospective MBA students, this distinction can be as important as the headline number itself.
Domestic MEP Reaches ₹81.6 Lakh
India-based placements also delivered strong numbers.
The highest domestic MEP stood at ₹81.6 lakh, while the median domestic MEP was around ₹37 lakh.
The average or mean domestic MEP was close to ₹36.98 lakh.
BFSI remained one of the most lucrative sectors in terms of domestic compensation.
IT, consumer services and automotive also reported high-end MEP figures of ₹50 lakh or more in their respective segments.
These numbers suggest that finance, technology and consulting continue to dominate premium MBA employment opportunities.
Consulting Was the Biggest Recruiter
While financial services delivered strong compensation, consulting dominated hiring volume.
Consulting firms made around 155 offers, considerably more than any other major sector.
BFSI followed with 82 offers.
IT and business conglomerates made around 34 offers each, while consumer services accounted for another 15.
Major consulting recruiters remained deeply involved in the process.
Accenture Strategy made 36 offers including pre-placement offers, while BCG made 33.
FinIQ Consulting made 24 offers and McKinsey & Company made 21.
The continued strength of consulting is significant because management consulting remains one of the most sought-after career tracks among MBA graduates.

Business Development Jobs Jump Sharply
Another interesting trend emerged away from traditional consulting and finance roles.
Business development opportunities increased sharply.
Between 2022 and 2024, IIM Ahmedabad reportedly saw only around two to five business-development offers annually.
In 2026, that number jumped to 27.
That could reflect changing employer priorities as companies look for managers who can combine strategy with revenue generation, partnerships, client acquisition and market expansion.
Technology companies, fintech firms and consumer businesses increasingly need executives who can operate across multiple functions rather than remain limited to narrowly defined roles.
More Than 50 New Companies Entered the Process
Recruiter diversity also increased.
More than 50 new firms joined IIM Ahmedabad’s lateral and final placement processes during the 2026 cycle.
Overall, 182 companies participated across roughly 267 roles.
The broader recruiter base matters because placement quality cannot be judged only by one headline package.
A healthy placement ecosystem also depends on:
- Number of recruiters
- Diversity of industries
- Variety of job roles
- Median compensation
- Geographic opportunities
- Career progression potential
For MBA candidates, median and sector-level numbers can often provide a more realistic picture than the highest package alone.
What the Numbers Mean for MBA Aspirants
IIM Ahmedabad remains one of India’s most competitive management institutions, and its placement performance is closely watched by students preparing for CAT and other management entrance processes.
However, a ₹2.31 crore headline should not become the sole basis for judging the value of an MBA.
Applicants should also consider:
- Programme cost
- Career goals
- Previous work experience
- Sector preference
- Long-term salary growth
- Location
- Role quality
- Placement distribution
The highest offer usually applies to a tiny fraction of a graduating batch.
Median compensation is therefore particularly useful because it provides a better picture of the middle of the placement distribution.

Global Roles Remain Limited but Highly Valuable
One interesting feature of the IIM Ahmedabad numbers is the contrast between international compensation and the number of overseas placements.
Only six candidates opted for international locations.
Four went to Dubai, while Hong Kong and Japan accounted for one placement each.
That means global jobs represented only a small portion of the overall placement pool.
Yet the record $243,000 MEP shows that individual international opportunities can command extremely high compensation.
Dubai’s rise as a destination is also notable because the city has increasingly attracted companies and talent across technology, finance, consulting, real estate and business services.
Why These Placement Numbers Matter Beyond IIM Ahmedabad
The results provide a useful indicator of demand for high-end managerial talent in India.
Strong consulting recruitment suggests businesses still value strategic and transformation expertise.
High BFSI compensation indicates continued demand in banking, investments and financial services.
At the same time, the increase in business-development positions shows employers are also looking for professionals who can directly contribute to revenue and expansion.
That makes the placement report relevant not only to IIM Ahmedabad students but also to anyone tracking India’s premium jobs market.
The ₹2.31 Crore Number Comes With an Important Lesson
The record international figure will understandably dominate headlines.
But the larger story is broader.
IIM Ahmedabad’s 2026 placement data shows strong domestic compensation, continuing consulting demand, premium BFSI opportunities, rising business-development hiring and participation from a wider pool of employers.
For students, the takeaway is simple: the ₹2.31 crore figure is an exceptional Maximum Earning Potential number, not the salary every IIM Ahmedabad graduate receives.
The more meaningful picture comes from looking at the entire placement distribution — where a domestic median MEP of around ₹37 lakh and participation from 182 companies point to the depth of recruiter demand.
