NEW DELHI, India | October 9, 2026 — Weather today brings different challenges across India: isolated heavy rain in parts of the south and Uttarakhand, thunderstorms across several eastern regions, and a warm, largely dry day in Delhi.

For commuters and families planning Friday outings, the most useful detail is the location of the forecast. A statewide rain warning does not mean every district will receive heavy showers, while a dry morning does not rule out changing conditions elsewhere.

The India Meteorological Department’s morning outlook identifies Kerala, Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and Uttarakhand among the areas where isolated heavy rainfall is likely. Meanwhile, Delhi’s latest local forecast points to afternoon temperatures of 33–35°C and no rain.

Where Heavy Rain Is Likely Today

The IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall over:

  • Uttarakhand
  • Kerala and Mahe
  • Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal
  • South Interior Karnataka

Residents in these areas should check district forecasts before leaving home. The warning describes the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations rather than continuous rain across each state.

For travelers, the practical concern is how a local burst of rain could affect a particular route. Allow additional time where showers develop, and check conditions before starting a long drive.

Delhi-NCR: A Warm Afternoon, With Clouds Developing Later

Delhi’s local IMD forecast, issued at 9:00 AM IST, expects a maximum temperature between 33°C and 35°C on Friday.

The sky should remain mainly clear initially and become partly cloudy toward the afternoon or evening. The bulletin forecasts no rain for the day.

Winds should generally range from 10–15 km/h earlier in the day and reach 15–20 km/h during the evening period.

For residents, this means the afternoon will still feel warm. Plan outdoor errands accordingly, particularly when they involve a long wait in the sun.

The local bulletin also indicates mainly clear skies becoming partly cloudy later across nearby NCR locations, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.

Uttarakhand: Check Conditions Before Hill Travel

Uttarakhand remains an important area to watch in Friday’s forecast. The IMD expects fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy showers.

Thunderstorms may also bring lightning and gusty winds. At isolated locations, gusts could reach 60 km/h.

Anyone traveling through the hills should check route information and local advisories before departure. Keep plans flexible if weather deteriorates.

Rain forecasts alone do not establish that a road has closed. Travelers should confirm actual restrictions with the relevant local authorities rather than rely on forwarded messages.

Southern India: Rain and Thunderstorms Need Local Attention

Kerala and Mahe face a relatively broad rainfall outlook, while the heavy-rain forecast remains isolated. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and South Interior Karnataka also appear in Friday’s heavy-rain outlook.

Thunderstorms add another consideration for outdoor plans. Conditions can differ between nearby neighborhoods, so check a short-term local update close to departure.

For school pickups, outdoor work and evening travel, a backup plan can help avoid a rushed decision if rain develops. Keep essential belongings protected and choose a suitable indoor waiting place.

East and Northeast India: Showers Across Several Regions

The IMD expects fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

Elsewhere, isolated to scattered rain is likely across parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Several northeastern states also face showers and thunderstorm activity.

Bihar’s forecast includes isolated thunderstorms with gusts potentially reaching 60 km/h. Other eastern regions may also experience lightning and gusty winds.

Residents should distinguish today’s regional forecast from a local nowcast. A nowcast provides a shorter-term indication of approaching weather and can be more useful immediately before an outdoor activity.

Konkan and Goa: Heat and Humidity Remain in Focus

Rain is only one part of Friday’s weather picture. The IMD also forecasts hot and humid conditions over Konkan and Goa.

Meanwhile, an Indian Express report citing the IMD describes mostly dry weather and gradually rising temperatures around Pune in the coming week following the monsoon’s withdrawal from Maharashtra.

For people spending time outdoors, cloud cover alone may not provide much relief from humid conditions. Schedule breaks and avoid unnecessary exertion during the warmest part of the day.

What to Check Before You Leave

Use today’s national forecast to identify the broad pattern. Then check your district forecast, the latest local nowcast and any confirmed transport advisory.

An umbrella helps with rain, but it does not provide safe shelter from lightning. If a thunderstorm approaches, move indoors rather than wait beneath a tree.

Friday’s weather will vary sharply by region. The key to planning the day is to match the forecast to your actual destination and departure time.

Forecast note: This report uses the IMD national bulletin issued at 8:06 AM IST and the Delhi local forecast issued at 9:00 AM IST on October 9, 2026. Later bulletins may update conditions.
