Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has revealed major updates on India’s first high-speed rail corridor. A 50-kilometer section between Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat is set to open in 2027, while the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad line is expected to be operational by 2029.
Mumbai to Ahmedabad in Just Over Two Hours

Once operational, the bullet train will cover Mumbai to Ahmedabad in just two hours and seven minutes.

The Minister recently visited the under-construction Surat bullet train station to inspect track installation work, including the first turnout where tracks diverge or join.

Ashwini Vaishnav stated:
“The progress of the first bullet train project is progressing very rapidly. The first 50-kilometer section between Surat and Bilimora will open to the public by 2027. By 2028, the Thane-Ahmedabad section will be operational, and by 2029, the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad line will be open.”
