Samay Raina felicitation controversy erupted Thursday after comedian Sunil Pal strongly criticized Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honoring Raina at a state cyber-awareness event, reopening debate over the comedian’s past India’s Got Latent controversy.
Raina was felicitated in Mumbai on Wednesday after contributing to Maharashtra Cyber’s awareness campaign against online fraud.
The event featured the launch of a cyber-awareness film focused on “digital arrest” scams along with the 1930 Maharashtra Cyber Anthem, designed to encourage victims of cyber fraud to seek immediate assistance.
But a day later, Sunil Pal publicly questioned the decision to honor Raina.
“Ghor Kalyug,” Pal said while reacting to the felicitation.
He argued that honoring a comedian previously associated with controversy could send the wrong message to younger performers.
