Rockman Industries commences new Skill Development Centre in Punjab

With the aim to boost employment opportunities through skill training for the youth of Punjab, Rockman industries has inaugurated its third Rockman Skill Development Centre (RSDC) in Kurali. The centre has excellent facilities and infrastructure in approx. 8000 sq. ft. area. Qualified industry experts will be inducted in the faculty for training students across various disciplines and basic computer literacy, soft skills as add-ons. In continuation of other centres, this centre will also provide free to cost training to the youth. The courses available to students for industrial positions include CNC Operator, Fitter, Electrician and IT Help Desk Attendant which is only for girls. The first RSDC was launched in Ludhiana in 2016 followed by another one in Haridwar in 2016. The opening of Rockman Skill Development Centre in Kurali is a win-win for both the youth of Chandigarh and Mohali and for the manufacturing industries in the region. These centres are helpful in bringing the youth on the right track and providing livelihood.

 

Rockman Skill Development Centre was inaugurated by Shri Suman Kant Munjal, Chairman, Rockman Industries, in the presence of Shri Arvind Gupta, Director Operations, Rockman Industries; Shri Navdeep Singh, Deputy CEO, Employment Exchange Bureau, Ludhiana;  Shri R.K. Singh, GM HR, Cheema Boiler Ltd.; Mr Ashok Rai, GM Commercial, ROC Ltd.; and others.

 

The Rockman Skill Development Centre is a part of Rockman Industries’ “Mission Parivartan”, which is engaged in various social initiatives like rural development, education and environment. RSDC functions in affiliation with National Skill Development Centre (NSDC). In the past two years; 2,866 students have been trained in Rockman’s centres out of which 55% or 1,286 are from Punjab. Rockman also provides work opportunities to these students and till now, have placed 2,639, which is over 90%, in good industrial base with a mix of MSMEs and large enterprises. These include automotive, auto parts, textiles, hosiery, garment, bicycle, bicycle components, machine tools, agriculture implements etc.

 

“After the success of our RSDC in Ludhiana and Haridwar we have opened this new centre in Kurali, Punjab with the aim to provide more employment opportunities for the youth. With India aiming to create a resource pool of 400 million skilled workers by 2022, RSDC’s will contribute in achieving the target of the Prime Minister’s Skill India initiative. We are also planning to open a RSDC in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh by end of this year. It is a proud day for us at Rockman Industries,” says Mr. Suman Kant Munjal, Chairman, Rockman Industries.

 

The future plans include opening more RSDCs that will train the youth in various industry disciplines and assist them in finding employment. Rockman is working closely with the National Skill Development Centre and organizations that specialize in imparting various vocational courses to the youth. Besides employment at industrial units, the purpose of attracting students to RSDC is also to make them self-reliant and to encourage them to become entrepreneurs.

 

To attract more and more youth to enrol at RSDC, Rockman partners with NGOs, academic institutions and volunteers. Further, pamphlets are distributed through volunteers and staff of RSDC in identified locations, residential colonies, villages etc. and to the workers in different industries, who would in turn reach out to relatives, neighbours and friends. Other steps include display of information/notices at Rockman Industries plants, and contacting villages within 50 kilometres radius through village level meetings etc.

 

Rockman Industries’ “Mission Parivartan”, under which Rockman Skill Development Centre, has been inaugurated, is the company’s social initiative focused at Sustainable Rural Development. Its aim is to promote village level entrepreneurship, empower youth / women through income generation activities, create awareness on social issues through digital education, promote clean technology solutions, and promote Social Responsibility.
