The Indian Army JAG Entry 2027 application process has officially begun for the 125th Judge Advocate General (JAG) Course, offering law graduates an opportunity to join the Indian Army as commissioned officers through the Short Service Commission (SSC).

Applications opened on July 17, 2026, and eligible unmarried male and female candidates can submit their applications through the Indian Army’s official recruitment portal. Selected candidates will undergo training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, with the course scheduled to commence in April 2027.

Vacancy Details

The Indian Army has announced 10 vacancies for the JAG Entry Scheme 125th Course.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a three-year LLB or five-year integrated law degree from a recognized university.
  • Secure at least 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying law degree.
  • Have appeared for CLAT PG 2026, conducted in December 2025.
  • Initial shortlisting will be based only on the CLAT PG 2026 score. Scores from any other CLAT PG examination will not be accepted.
  • Be eligible for registration as an advocate with the Bar Council of India or a State Bar Council.

Age Limit

Applicants must:

  • Be unmarried.
  • Be 21 to 27 years old as of January 1, 2027.
  • Be born between January 2, 2000, and January 1, 2006 (both dates as specified in the notification).

Selection Process

The recruitment process consists of multiple stages:

  1. Shortlisting based on CLAT PG 2026 scores.
  2. Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview.
  3. Medical Examination.
  4. Final Merit List prepared solely on the basis of SSB interview performance.

The SSB interviews are expected to be conducted at selection centers located in:

  • Prayagraj
  • Bhopal
  • Bengaluru
  • Jalandhar

Training and Commission

Selected candidates will undergo 49 weeks of pre-commission training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.

After successfully completing the training, candidates will be commissioned into the Indian Army as Lieutenants under the Judge Advocate General Branch.


Tenure of Service

Candidates selected through the JAG Entry Scheme will receive:

  • 10 years of Short Service Commission (SSC).
  • An extension of up to 4 additional years, subject to eligibility and service requirements.
  • Eligible officers may also be considered for the grant of Permanent Commission, depending on Army policies and vacancies.

Candidates must satisfy the prescribed physical fitness standards before commencing training.

Salary and Benefits

During Training

Candidates undergoing training at OTA Chennai will receive a monthly stipend of ₹56,100.

After Commissioning

Upon commissioning as a Lieutenant, officers will receive:

  • Basic Pay: ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500 per month (Pay Level 10)
  • Military Service Pay (MSP): ₹15,500 per month
  • Dearness Allowance (DA)
  • Transport Allowance
  • House Rent Allowance (where applicable)
  • Other admissible military benefits and allowances

According to the Indian Army, the annual Cost to Company (CTC) is estimated to be ₹17 lakh to ₹18 lakh, depending on the place of posting and applicable allowances.
