Delhi NCR Weather Update
The southwest monsoon has regained momentum across Delhi-NCR, bringing widespread rainfall to several parts of the National Capital Region on Tuesday morning. Areas including Noida, Ghaziabad, and parts of Delhi witnessed light to moderate showers, providing much-needed relief from humid conditions.
While the rainfall improved weather conditions, it also caused waterlogging and traffic congestion in several low-lying areas during the morning commute.
Rainfall Improves Weather Across the NCR
Rainfall began early Tuesday in multiple parts of Delhi and the NCR after scattered showers were recorded on Monday afternoon and light drizzle continued overnight.
The fresh spell of rain has increased moisture levels while bringing down daytime temperatures, making the weather noticeably cooler and more pleasant compared to the previous week.
Safdarjung Records 8 mm of Rainfall
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded 8 mm of rainfall by 5:50 PM on Monday.
Rainfall recorded at other monitoring stations included:
- Ridge: 19.4 mm
- Lodhi Road: 11.5 mm
- Pusa: 4 mm
- Ayanagar: 3.8 mm
- Janakpuri: 2 mm
- Mayur Vihar: 0.5 mm
- Naraina: 0.5 mm
- Najafgarh: 0.5 mm
No rainfall was recorded during the same period at Palam, Jafarpur, and Chhatarpur.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert for the Next Two Days
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for July 28 and July 29, forecasting increased rainfall activity across Delhi-NCR.
The weather office expects:
- One or two spells of light rain across most areas.
- Moderate rainfall at isolated locations.
- Cloudy skies throughout the day.
- Relief from intense sunshine, although humidity may persist.
Residents have been advised to remain alert for temporary waterlogging, slippery roads, and slower traffic during periods of rainfall.
Weather Forecast Through August 2
According to the IMD forecast, Delhi is expected to witness generally cloudy skies through August 2.
July 30
- Light rain likely.
July 31 – August 2
- Mostly cloudy skies.
- Very light to light rainfall at isolated places.
During this period:
- Maximum Temperature: 32°C to 34°C
- Minimum Temperature: 22°C to 25°C
Southwesterly and southeasterly winds are also expected to influence weather conditions across the region.
