TIFR Apprentice Recruitment 2026 offers 10 training seats for ITI certificate holders at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai. The institute will conduct walk-in selection on September 30 at 9:30 a.m. and pay selected apprentices a monthly stipend of ₹18,500.
The intake covers seven trades, with electricians accounting for the largest number of vacancies. TIFR has issued Advertisement No. 2026/24 for the selection and made online applications available through its recruitment portal.
The institute has also provided an option for candidates who cannot register online. They can report directly on the scheduled date with the documents specified in the advertisement.
TIFR apprentice vacancies across seven trades
The vacancy distribution gives candidates five seats across the electrician and carpenter trades. Each of the remaining five trades has one opening.

Applicants must hold the qualification for the same trade in which they seek training. For example, an electrician certificate supports an application for an electrician seat; it does not establish eligibility for a different advertised trade.
ITI qualification and age requirements
Candidates need an ITI qualification, specifically a National Trade Certificate awarded by the National Council of Vocational Training, with at least 60% aggregate marks in the relevant trade.

Applicants should check their date of birth and trade certificates before completing the form. The detailed notice does not provide a category-wise age-relaxation schedule.
TIFR will consider fresh apprenticeship candidates. People who have already undertaken apprenticeship training are ineligible under the advertisement’s conditions.
How the written test and merit calculation work
TIFR will select candidates using their aggregate trade marks across all semesters and their performance in a written examination.
The final merit calculation assigns 60% weight to trade marks and 40% to the written test. Candidates need a combined score of at least 60% to receive consideration.
The written test carries 50 marks. It covers relevant technical knowledge, quantitative aptitude, reasoning, mathematics and the ITI syllabus.
As a result, candidates should prepare for an examination on the walk-in day and organize their semester marksheets for verification. The 60% academic eligibility requirement and the 60% combined merit threshold apply at different stages.
Registration and documents to prepare
Candidates should register on the National Apprenticeship Portal and retain the confirmation email. They should then complete the institute’s application through the official TIFR careers section.
Applicants who submit the form online should print it and attach a recent passport-size photograph. The careers notice also allows candidates unable to register online to attend directly with the required documents.
For the selection process, candidates should bring originals and photocopies of the relevant records, including:

- Accepted identity proof and date-of-birth certificate.
- Educational certificates, trade marksheets and National Trade Certificate.
- Character certificates from two persons, as required by the notice.
