A man carrying weapons and ammunition has been arrested near President Donald Trump’s golf course in Southern California after authorities said he was observed photographing and recording security preparations ahead of Trump’s scheduled visit.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was taken into custody after deputies found ammunition on his person and a loaded handgun inside his vehicle. The arrest came as security was being intensified before President Trump was expected to attend a Republican National Committee (RNC) fundraising dinner at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes.
What Did Police Find?
Authorities said the suspect, identified as a 38-year-old man, was carrying a 16-round ammunition magazine and additional ammunition in his pocket at the time of his arrest.
During a subsequent search of his residence on Monday, investigators reportedly recovered:
- Multiple firearms
- Ammunition and high-capacity magazines
- Body armor
- Several notebooks containing writings described by investigators as “concerning”
Police are examining the recovered materials as part of the ongoing investigation.
Why Was the Man Arrested?
According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies became suspicious after the individual was seen taking photographs and recording videos of security arrangements around the golf course before President Trump’s visit.
The suspect has been arrested on charges including:
- Carrying a concealed firearm
- Possession of prohibited ammunition
Authorities have not announced any charges directly related to a plot against the President.
Was the Suspect Already Under Investigation?
Officials confirmed that the El Segundo Police Department had already been investigating the suspect in connection with a separate robbery case.
Investigators are now reviewing whether there is any link between his previous activities and the latest incident.
