The WTC Points Table 2025-27 has changed significantly after England crushed Pakistan by 194 runs at Lord’s, with Joe Root’s side climbing to sixth place while Pakistan remain rooted to the bottom of the nine-team standings.
England’s second successive victory over Pakistan took their points tally to 62 from 15 Tests and lifted their points percentage to 34.44%.
Pakistan, meanwhile, suffered their sixth defeat in eight matches of the current World Test Championship cycle. They remain ninth with only 16 points and a PCT of 16.67%.
India continue to occupy fifth place with 68 points and a 51.52% PCT, while Australia remain comfortably on top.

England have now moved above Sri Lanka, who slip to seventh despite having played far fewer matches.
England Jump From Seventh to Sixth
England entered the Pakistan series under severe pressure in the WTC standings.
Wins at Headingley and Lord’s have improved their position significantly.
The 194-run Lord’s victory added 12 championship points, taking England to 62 points and moving their PCT to 34.44%.
They still face an extremely difficult route toward the 2027 WTC Final because earlier slow-over-rate penalties have cost England 14 championship points.
Those deductions continue to hurt even after consecutive victories.
England have six Tests remaining in the cycle:
- One against Pakistan
- Three against South Africa
- Two against Bangladesh
Even if England win all six, their maximum possible PCT would be approximately 53.17%.
That means Joe Root’s side need not only a near-perfect finish but also favourable results involving teams currently above them.

Pakistan’s WTC Situation Turns Critical
Pakistan’s position is even more alarming.
They have now lost six of eight Tests in the current WTC cycle and sit last with a points percentage of only 16.67%.
Pakistan have also lost eight championship points because of slow-over-rate penalties.
The defeat at Lord’s followed their innings-and-103-run loss in the opening Test at Headingley.
Their remaining WTC schedule includes:
- One Test against England
- Two against Sri Lanka
- Two against New Zealand
Even if Pakistan win all five remaining Tests, their maximum possible PCT would rise only to around 48.72%.
That makes their road to a top-two finish exceptionally difficult.
The immediate target will be avoiding a 3-0 series whitewash when the final England-Pakistan Test begins at Edgbaston on September 9.
India Remain Fifth at 51.52%
England’s victory has not changed India’s position.
India remain fifth with:
- 11 Tests played
- 5 wins
- 4 defeats
- 2 draws
- 68 points
- 51.52% PCT
India recently defeated Sri Lanka in Galle before the second Test in Colombo ended in a draw.
That result prevented India from making a bigger jump in the standings.
Shubman Gill’s side still have seven Tests remaining in the cycle:
- Two away against New Zealand
- Five at home against Australia
India therefore remain alive in the race, but their margin for error is limited.

Australia Still Dominate WTC Table
Australia continue to lead the championship race with an 80% PCT.
They have won eight of their 10 Tests and accumulated 96 points.
Defending champions South Africa sit second with 75%, while New Zealand are third on 72.22%.
Bangladesh remain one of the surprise contenders in fourth place with a healthy 55.56% PCT.
The current top five therefore look like this:
Australia — 80.00%
South Africa — 75.00%
New Zealand — 72.22%
Bangladesh — 55.56%
India — 51.52%
The gap between fifth-placed India and sixth-placed England remains substantial.
Why PCT Matters More Than Total Points
The World Test Championship table is ranked by points percentage, or PCT, rather than simply total points.
This is necessary because teams do not all play the same number of Tests during a WTC cycle.
A Test victory is worth 12 points, a tie earns six points for each team and a draw gives four points.
However, slow-over-rate penalties can reduce a team’s total.
That is particularly important for England and Pakistan.
England have suffered 14 deducted points, while Pakistan have lost eight points through penalties.
Without those deductions, both teams would be in stronger positions.
Can England Still Reach the WTC Final?
Mathematically, England still have opportunities to improve significantly.
However, their maximum PCT is now limited even if they win every remaining Test.
They therefore require multiple teams above them to lose points.
For practical purposes, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand remain in much stronger positions, while Bangladesh and India also have a meaningful advantage.
England’s immediate task is to complete a 3-0 sweep over Pakistan.
Anything less would make an already difficult qualification equation even tougher.
Pakistan Need More Than Just an Edgbaston Win
Pakistan’s problem is no longer simply the series scoreline.
Their WTC campaign has been damaged by:
- Six defeats in eight matches
- Eight penalty points
- Repeated batting collapses
- Poor away results
- A PCT of just 16.67%
Pakistan have now lost 10 of their last 11 away Tests.
A victory at Edgbaston would provide valuable points and stop the current slide, but even a strong finish to the cycle may not be enough without dramatic results elsewhere.
WTC Final 2027 Race: What Happens Next?
The next few series could reshape the table again.
England still have major contests against South Africa and Bangladesh.
India face perhaps their biggest challenge with two Tests in New Zealand followed by a five-match home series against Australia.
Pakistan must still play Sri Lanka and New Zealand after the England tour.
The 2027 World Test Championship Final will be played at The Oval in London from June 9 to June 13, 2027.
For now, Australia remain the team to catch.
England have climbed one place after their Lord’s victory, but Pakistan’s defeat has left them stranded at the bottom—and their WTC Final hopes are now hanging by a very thin thread.
