India Squad for Sri Lanka Test Series 2026
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for India’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15, 2026.
Shubman Gill will continue as captain, while KL Rahul has been named vice-captain. The squad also features a maiden Test call-up for Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain, while the availability of Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan will depend on fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE).
Saransh Jain Earns Maiden Test Selection
The biggest talking point in the squad announcement is the inclusion of Saransh Jain, who has received his first-ever call-up to the Indian Test team.
The Madhya Pradesh all-rounder has impressed consistently in domestic cricket and has now been rewarded with an opportunity at the international level.
India’s wicketkeeping duties will be shared by:
- Rishabh Pant
- Dhruv Jurel
The batting unit also includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and Devdutt Padikkal.
Among the spin-bowling all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar have been selected.
Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan Await Fitness Clearance
India’s pace attack will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, alongside:
- Mohammed Siraj
- Prasidh Krishna
- Gurnoor Brar
However, the BCCI clarified that Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan will be available for selection only after receiving fitness clearance from the Centre of Excellence (COE).
The board also stated that Washington Sundar was unavailable for selection for the first Test, and therefore was not included in the squad.
Jadeja Returns to India’s Test Setup
Compared with India’s previous Test squad against Afghanistan, several changes have been made.
