LONDON, United Kingdom | September 18, 2026 —

The Laver Cup 2026 will begin at The O2 in London on September 25, bringing 12 leading men’s tennis players together for a three-day Team Europe vs Team World competition.

Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev will lead Team Europe, while Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur headline Team World.

The tournament will run from September 25 to September 27.

Unlike a regular tennis tournament, players do not compete for an individual singles title. Six European players form Team Europe, while six players from the rest of the world form Team World.

The first team to reach 13 points wins the Laver Cup.

That is the central story of Laver Cup 2026.

What Is the Laver Cup?

The Laver Cup is a three-day men’s team tennis tournament.

It pits:

Team Europe — six European players

against

Team World — six players from outside Europe

The competition includes both singles and doubles matches.

It is an official ATP Tour event, and results from its matches are recorded in players’ official records.

The 2026 tournament will be the ninth edition of the Laver Cup.

When and Where Is Laver Cup 2026?

The tournament will be played at The O2 in London, United Kingdom.

Start: Friday, September 25, 2026
Final day: Sunday, September 27, 2026

The O2 is also significant in Laver Cup history because Roger Federer played the final competitive match of his career there during the 2022 edition.

Team Europe: Alcaraz and Zverev Lead Six-Man Squad

Team Europe will feature:

Carlos Alcaraz
Alexander Zverev
Flavio Cobolli
Rafael Jodar
Jakub Mensik
Casper Ruud

Former French Open champion Yannick Noah is Team Europe captain.

British tennis great Tim Henman is vice captain.

Alcaraz and Zverev will provide the biggest star power, while Ruud brings considerable Laver Cup experience.

Team World: Fritz and De Minaur Headline Lineup

Team World will feature:

Taylor Fritz
Alex de Minaur
Brandon Nakashima
Alexander Bublik
Learner Tien
Francisco Cerundolo

Eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi is Team World captain.

Former US Open champion Patrick Rafter is vice captain.

Team World made a late change on September 17 when Brandon Nakashima replaced Ben Shelton, who withdrew from the tournament.

Francisco Cerundolo had earlier replaced Tommy Paul, who withdrew while recovering from an elbow injury.

How Is the Laver Cup Winner Decided?

This is where the Laver Cup differs most from an ordinary tennis tournament.

Each victory earns points for the team.

Friday, September 25

Each match victory is worth 1 point.

Saturday, September 26

Each victory is worth 2 points.

Sunday, September 27

Each victory is worth 3 points.

The first team to reach 13 points wins the Laver Cup.

This scoring system means Sunday can completely change the result because every victory on the final day is worth three points.

If the teams finish level at 12-12 after the scheduled matches, an overtime doubles match will decide the champion.

Will Alcaraz Play Fritz or De Minaur?

The exact matchups have not yet been announced.

That is another important feature of the Laver Cup.

Captains decide their daily lineups during the tournament.

Friday’s lineup will be announced on Thursday, September 24.

Saturday and Sunday lineups will then be selected as the competition develops.

So a Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz or Alcaraz vs Alex de Minaur match is possible, but it cannot yet be presented as confirmed.

Team World Will Defend the Trophy

Team World enters London as the defending champion after beating Team Europe 15-9 in San Francisco in 2025.

That gives the 2026 tournament a simple competitive storyline:

Team World will try to retain the trophy, while Team Europe will attempt to win it back on European soil.

Why Laver Cup 2026 Is Worth Watching

The attraction of the Laver Cup comes from seeing players who normally compete against one another become teammates.

Alcaraz, Zverev and Ruud will sit on the same Team Europe bench.

Fritz, De Minaur, Bublik and Nakashima will represent Team World.

The captains also play an active role in selecting matchups and coaching players during matches.

That creates a team atmosphere rarely seen on the regular men’s tennis tour.

The Big Picture

The Laver Cup 2026 is therefore very easy to understand:

12 players.

Two teams.

Europe vs the rest of the world.

Three days of singles and doubles tennis.

First team to 13 points wins.

And from September 25 to 27, London’s The O2 will host the battle, with Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur among the leading names on court.
