Black Panther 3 Release Date

Marvel Studios has officially announced the next chapter in its acclaimed Black Panther franchise, with “Black Panther 3” scheduled for release on December 15, 2028. According to the announcement, David Johnson will take on a central role as Prince T’Challa II, ushering in a new era for the Wakandan superhero saga.

The announcement was made during Marvel’s Comic-Con Hall H presentation, where the studio also confirmed the return of several familiar faces behind and in front of the camera.

David Johnson to Play Prince T’Challa II

According to Marvel’s announcement, David Johnson will portray Prince T’Challa II, the son of King T’Challa, in Black Panther 3.

The upcoming film is expected to follow the journey of the young prince as he steps into a larger role in Wakanda’s future. Fans were first introduced to the character as a child in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and the third installment will reportedly expand his story.

Ryan Coogler Returns as Director

Acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler, who directed the first two Black Panther films, is returning to helm the third installment.

Marvel also confirmed that:

  • Letitia Wright will reprise her role as Shuri.
  • Winston Duke will return as M’Baku.

The returning cast is expected to continue the story established in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, while introducing the franchise’s next generation of heroes.

The Legacy of Black Panther

The Black Panther franchise has become one of Marvel Studios’ most celebrated series.

  • Black Panther (2018) featured the late Chadwick Boseman as King T’Challa and became a global box-office success, earning critical acclaim and multiple Academy Award nominations.
  • Following Boseman’s passing in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer, Marvel chose not to recast the original T’Challa.
  • In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), Letitia Wright’s character Shuri assumed the mantle of Black Panther while honoring Boseman’s legacy.

The third film is expected to continue expanding Wakanda’s story through the next generation.

While Marvel has not revealed the complete storyline, the new film is expected to focus on:

  • Prince T’Challa II’s journey.
  • Wakanda’s evolving leadership.
  • Returning heroes from earlier films.
