NEW DELHI, India | October 10, 2026 — The CJP protest in Delhi took a dramatic turn Saturday morning when police entered an aircraft after it landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport and detained movement founder Abhijeet Dipke along with Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
“I have come here to be arrested. Arrest me,” Dipke told officers during the exchange, according to footage and reports from the aircraft. An officer responded that the action was not an arrest and asked him to cooperate.
The airport intervention came before the Cockroach Janta Party’s planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Delhi Police had denied permission for the gathering. Meanwhile, security checks, detentions and transport restrictions affected access to parts of the capital.
The movement seeks Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR. Those allegations remain contested.
Latest development: Police intercept CJP leaders inside aircraft
Dipke broadcast the encounter on Instagram as police entered the plane. Reports identified Das and Ranka as the other CJP figures whom officers detained after arrival.
Subsequently, CJP condemned the intervention and demanded their release. In a statement, the movement alleged that police had planned the interception to prevent its leaders from reaching the demonstration.
That explanation represents CJP’s allegation about the purpose of the action. The available reports did not provide a detailed police statement setting out the legal grounds for the three leaders’ detention.
Importantly, the exchange aboard the aircraft does not establish that officers formally arrested them or filed criminal charges.
Dhruv Rathee detention adds to morning developments
Earlier Saturday, police detained YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in Gurugram ahead of the demonstration, according to reporting that cited police sources.
CJP also condemned his detention and called for the release of other activists and students. It accused the authorities of suppressing dissent over the voter-list dispute.
However, reports differed on some operational details, including the precise location and police teams involved. The confirmed reporting available for this update supports the detention account without establishing every detail of his subsequent movements.
Demonstrators face police action across central Delhi
Police also detained people attempting to gather near Jantar Mantar and in the Sansad Marg area. In addition, reports described security personnel detaining protesters, including content creators, at Dhaula Kuan.
At Connaught Place, police said demonstrators had arrived in small groups. Morning reports described detentions there as officers sought to prevent people from reaching the proposed protest site.
Published detention totals changed as the morning progressed. Consequently, figures from different locations and reporting times should not be added together as a verified citywide total.
The developments show that police action extended beyond the movement’s leadership to people approaching gathering points across the city.
Border checks tighten as police cite public order
Security personnel intensified checks at the Chilla crossing between Noida and Delhi and at other approaches to the capital.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhay Kumar Mishra said authorities had deployed personnel under restrictions in force in his district and were monitoring the situation to prevent a law-and-order problem.
Meanwhile, police checked vehicles and buses on routes toward Delhi. These measures created another obstacle for people traveling toward the proposed gathering, while also affecting ordinary road users.
Metro restrictions and mobile internet curbs affect commuters
Morning coverage reported restrictions at 45 Delhi Metro stations. Earlier reports had referred to a proposed restriction involving 57 stations, so travelers should check the latest station-specific advisory before leaving.
Station entry and exit restrictions do not necessarily mean that authorities have stopped every train across the Metro network. Passengers need to verify both station access and their intended route.
Separately, reports described a mobile internet suspension within a four-kilometer radius of the Janpath–Kartavya Path crossing, scheduled from 10 PM on October 9 until 10 PM on October 10. The reported measure concerns a defined area, rather than a confirmed suspension throughout Delhi.
Rail cancellations and rescheduling added to the disruption. Travelers should therefore check their individual service status and allow extra time for road journeys through affected areas.
Political confrontation continues alongside security operation
AAP MP Sanjay Singh criticized the restrictions and said his party supported the CJP demonstration. He maintained that supporters would continue protesting despite police action.
Meanwhile, BJP president Nitin Nabin accused CJP and opposition parties of attempting to destabilize the country. These competing statements reflect the political dispute surrounding the gathering; they do not independently establish either side’s allegations.
For now, the immediate developments concern the detained leaders’ status, access to the proposed protest site and changes to transport restrictions. Commuters should treat this report as a morning snapshot and check fresh advisories before traveling.
