MUMBAI, India | September 23, 2026 —
Shah Rukh Khan apparently has no intention of returning to cinemas quietly.
His next theatrical release, King, is shaping up as a full-scale action spectacle, with industry reports placing its production budget at around ₹350 crore, excluding marketing and publicity.
That figure has not been formally confirmed by the producers. However, reports around the Siddharth Anand-directed film consistently point toward an unusually expensive production built around massive practical action sequences, international locations and an ensemble cast led by Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan.
And if those reports prove accurate, King is not merely trying to look big.
It is spending like a film determined to own the big screen.
₹350 Crore — Before the Marketing Machine Even Starts?
Industry reports have estimated King’s production budget at approximately ₹350 crore.
Crucially, that reported figure does not include the film’s eventual print, publicity and wider promotional spending.
That distinction matters.
A major Shah Rukh Khan Christmas release will inevitably arrive with a large global promotional campaign, meaning the total commercial investment around King could climb considerably beyond the reported production cost.
The makers, Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, have not publicly confirmed a final production-budget number.
Therefore, the ₹350 crore figure should be viewed as an industry estimate rather than an official financial disclosure.
One Action Sequence Reportedly Cost ₹50 Crore
Here is where the scale starts becoming easier to understand.
One major European action sequence has been reported to have cost approximately ₹50 crore.
The sequence was reportedly filmed over about 10 days, which would put its production expense near ₹5 crore per shooting day.
Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan were reportedly involved in the schedule, alongside a large stunt and action unit.
The production has also reportedly brought in international action specialists as Siddharth Anand attempts to give the film a global action-movie scale.
For comparison, ₹50 crore is enough to finance an entire mid-sized Hindi film.
King is reportedly spending that much on a single action segment.
Six Mega Action Sequences Could Drive the Film
Industry reports have claimed that Siddharth Anand designed six major action set pieces for King.
Three have reportedly been planned around real locations, while others involve specially constructed environments and elaborate production work.
That strategy fits Anand’s filmmaking style.
He previously directed Shah Rukh Khan in Pathaan, and his filmography also includes large-scale action titles such as War and Fighter.
However, King appears designed to push that formula further.
The official material from Red Chillies Entertainment has already described the movie as a high-octane action entertainer and a new Shah Rukh Khan experience.
The production has also presented SRK in a darker, more ruthless screen persona than audiences usually associate with his romantic superstar image.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Entry Could Be One of the Biggest Set Pieces
Reports around the production have repeatedly highlighted Shah Rukh Khan’s introduction as one of the film’s major attractions.
That should surprise nobody.
For a film literally titled King — and led by an actor popularly called King Khan — the opening presentation carries enormous expectations.
The filmmakers appear to understand that.
The title reveal presented Shah Rukh with silver hair, sharp styling and an aggressive new personality while positioning the character as a feared figure with a reputation extending across countries.
Rather than easing audiences into the film, King appears ready to announce its star with maximum force.
Suhana Khan Makes the Project Even More Personal
King also carries another major talking point: Suhana Khan.
The film marks one of the biggest theatrical projects featuring Shah Rukh Khan alongside his daughter.
Suhana made her acting debut with Netflix’s The Archies, but King places her inside a completely different environment — a large-scale commercial action thriller built for theatres.
The announced cast also includes Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Abhay Verma and Arshad Warsi among key names associated with the film.
That combination gives King the scale of an ensemble blockbuster rather than a conventional single-star action vehicle.
A ₹450 Crore Claim Was Already Rejected
The budget conversation requires some caution.
Earlier this year, reports circulated suggesting that King’s budget could have reached approximately ₹450 crore.
Director Siddharth Anand publicly responded to that reporting with one word: “False.”
He did not provide an alternative official figure.
Therefore, while the ₹350 crore estimate has appeared across several industry reports, it remains sensible to describe it as reported rather than confirmed.
That distinction protects the story from turning production chatter into established fact.
December 24 Release Is Official — And SRK Says It Is Not Moving
While the budget remains unofficial, the release date does not.
King will arrive in cinemas on December 24, 2026.
Red Chillies Entertainment lists the date officially, and Shah Rukh Khan recently reinforced the schedule himself amid speculation that the movie could be delayed.
During a September interaction with fans, SRK made it clear that the Christmas release remains intact.
That confirmation makes King one of the most important Hindi theatrical releases heading into the final stretch of 2026.
It also ends months of uncertainty created by speculation around production schedules and the injuries Shah Rukh reportedly suffered during filming.
Three Years After ‘Dunki,’ Shah Rukh Returns to the Big Screen
King will also carry another piece of pressure.
It marks Shah Rukh Khan’s first theatrical lead release since Dunki in December 2023.
His 2023 run changed the commercial conversation around him.
Pathaan and Jawan became enormous theatrical successes, while Dunki completed a year in which Shah Rukh returned to cinemas with extraordinary visibility.
King therefore does not arrive as a simple comeback.
It arrives after a long gap with expectations already pushed sky-high.
This Is No Longer Just Another SRK Film
The numbers tell one story.
The casting tells another.
And the Christmas release date adds the final layer.
A reported ₹350 crore production.
Six major action sequences.
A ₹50 crore European set piece.
Siddharth Anand behind the camera.
Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan sharing one of the year’s biggest Hindi productions.
No official budget confirmation can yet turn every industry estimate into fact.
But the scale surrounding King is impossible to miss.
The film does not appear to be chasing the feel of an ordinary blockbuster.
It appears to be chasing event cinema.
And on December 24, audiences will finally decide whether the money, muscle and massive expectations have created a true King-sized spectacle.
