Argentine football icon Lionel Messi has donated €80,000 (approximately ₹88 lakh) to support reconstruction efforts in areas devastated by the recent wildfires in Spain’s Madrid region. The contribution will help rebuild communities affected by the massive blaze that swept through the Sierra Oeste area.
The donation was announced by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, who thanked Messi for his generous support and solidarity with the victims of the disaster.

Sharing the announcement on social media, Ayuso expressed her gratitude for the football legend’s contribution.
“Messi has donated €80,000 for the reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste region of Madrid. I would like to thank him and tell him that the people of Madrid look forward to welcoming him soon and giving him the recognition he deserves,” she said.
The donation comes as local authorities continue working to restore infrastructure and assist families affected by one of the region’s most destructive wildfire disasters in recent years.
Wildfires Caused Widespread Destruction
The fires spread rapidly across the Sierra Oeste region near Madrid, damaging forests, homes, and public infrastructure.
Earlier this summer, severe wildfires fueled by extreme heat, dry weather, and strong winds forced large-scale evacuations across Spain, France, and Italy, prompting emergency response operations throughout Southern Europe.
According to reports, Spain declared a national emergency after the fires threatened communities near Madrid and in Ávila Province, where firefighters battled rapidly advancing flames under difficult weather conditions.
Messi Continues His Humanitarian Efforts
Messi’s latest donation adds to his long record of charitable initiatives supporting disaster relief, healthcare, education, and children through the Leo Messi Foundation and other humanitarian efforts.
