MUMBAI — August 17, 2026
Ranveer Singh Pralay filming has officially begun in Mumbai, placing the Bollywood star at the center of a reported zombie-apocalypse survival thriller unlike anything he has previously attempted on the big screen.
The project also stars “Lokah” actress Kalyani Priyadarshan and is being directed by Jai Mehta, known for his work on “Lootere” and “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.”
“Pralay” is Singh’s first project to begin production after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees withdrew its non-cooperation directive against him in June.
The film is expected to follow people struggling to survive as their world approaches collapse. Its makers reportedly plan to combine the familiar elements of a zombie thriller with a more character-driven story about survival, relationships and human endurance.
‘Pralay’ Begins Filming in Mumbai
The first production schedule is underway in Mumbai, where the team is expected to film scenes across sets and selected real-world locations.
The makers reportedly want the film’s environment to appear grounded and recognizable, even as its story unfolds against an apocalyptic backdrop. Using real locations could help give the fictional crisis a stronger sense of urgency and authenticity.
The movie is expected to present a devastated urban setting in which ordinary infrastructure has broken down and every decision becomes a matter of survival.
Although several plot descriptions are circulating, the producers have not publicly released a complete synopsis. Specific details about the characters played by Singh and Priyadarshan also remain undisclosed.
Production updates confirm that the film has gone on the floor, but a theatrical release date has not yet been announced. Current production reporting places the opening schedule in Mumbai.
Ranveer Singh Enters Zombie-Apocalypse Territory
“Pralay” is expected to mark Singh’s first major entry into the zombie-apocalypse genre.
The actor has worked across historical dramas, romantic films, comedies, sports stories and action thrillers. However, an apocalyptic survival narrative could demand a different kind of performance, built around fear, physical exhaustion and the psychological pressure of living in a collapsing world.
The film’s title, “Pralay,” translates broadly to destruction, catastrophe or an overwhelming calamity. That meaning aligns with reports describing the movie as a story set near the end of civilization.
Rather than relying only on zombies and action sequences, the narrative is expected to focus on how its characters respond when social systems fail and danger becomes unavoidable.
The survival angle could help distinguish the project from conventional zombie movies if the film gives equal attention to human relationships, moral choices and emotional conflict.
Kalyani Priyadarshan Joins Ranveer Singh
Kalyani Priyadarshan will appear opposite Singh in the film’s central cast.
Her participation brings a prominent South Indian screen presence to the ambitious Hindi-language project. While her character has not been formally revealed, reports suggest that the story will place its leading characters together during the apocalyptic crisis.
The pairing of Singh and Priyadarshan is another reason the film has generated early interest. The two have not previously appeared together in a major theatrical release.
The producers have not announced the complete supporting cast. Further casting details are expected as filming progresses.
Who Is ‘Pralay’ Director Jai Mehta?
Jai Mehta is directing the film after working on critically discussed streaming projects.
He co-directed “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story,” the financial drama that became one of India’s most widely recognized streaming series. He later directed “Lootere,” an action-drama series built around piracy, survival and conflict.
Those projects demonstrated Mehta’s interest in stories driven by escalating danger and morally complicated characters. “Pralay” gives him an opportunity to explore those themes on a larger cinematic canvas.
A post-apocalyptic production also presents major technical challenges, including world-building, action choreography, practical effects, production design and visual effects.
FWICE Withdrew Non-Cooperation Directive in June
The Mumbai shoot follows a turbulent period for Singh after his departure from Farhan Akhtar’s “Don 3.”
FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor in May following a complaint connected to his exit from the project. The directive asked the federation’s members and affiliated workers not to cooperate with him professionally.
It was widely described as a ban, although technically it was an industry non-cooperation order rather than a government or court-imposed prohibition.
The decision potentially affected a large network of film workers associated with FWICE and created uncertainty around Singh’s upcoming projects.
However, the federation withdrew the directive on June 3 after discussions involving industry organizations and representatives. Its withdrawal allowed workers affiliated with the organization to collaborate with the actor again.
“Pralay” is the first major production Singh has started since that dispute was resolved.
Ranveer and Deepika Prepare to Welcome Second Child
The actor is also experiencing a significant period in his personal life. Singh and his wife, Deepika Padukone, announced in April that they are expecting their second child.
The couple shared the news through a joint social-media post featuring their daughter, Dua, holding a positive pregnancy test. They welcomed Dua in September 2024.
Reports have suggested that family considerations influenced the decision to conduct more of the film’s production in Mumbai rather than move the entire schedule overseas. However, the makers have not publicly provided a detailed account of all scheduling decisions.
Singh and Padukone married in November 2018 after dating for several years.
