During the year 2012, the crime graph of the city registered many ups and downs. Although the police expressed helplessness over the incidents, in june, sector-7 residents caught hold of two snatchers and beat them up.  While the city’s police force remained busy with VIP security and controlling protests, the city hung its head in shame after recovery of male and female foetuses was reported from many parts of the city. Within days of her joining, police took out a massive flag march to restore a sense of security in the hearts of the residents. The residents said that with deployment of police at various points in the city round the clock has indeed instilled a sense of security to some extent.  The year 2012 witnessed a large number of road accidents in which many people, mostly the young, in the age-group of 18 to 25 years, lost their lives. The first accident of the year was witnessed in January on Pinjore-Parwanoo National Highway where two persons including threee year old Bholla and  his uncle Ashu   died in a head on collision and four family members were seriously injured.   In January, Two youths while trying to overtake truck died in road accident near barwalla. Traffic policemen said they have been issuing challans to the violators of traffic rules everyday. The cops said that the number of accidents due to wrongly parked vehicles has gone down drastically in the city as people have started parking their vehicles within the yellow line.  Because of a special drive against the traffic rule violators, the number of those who jump the red light and those parking their vehicles in a haphazard manner by the roadside has reduced to a great extent, police said. Cranes have also been introduced to tow away the wrongly parked vehicles and all this has started creating awareness among the motorists.  Volunteers of the NGO nagar sudhar sabha & Road Safety Organisation, that  works for road accident victims, attributed the rise in the number of mishaps to the rise in the number of vehicles, especially the SUVs.
