Would convey the message of truth and non-violence

I am delighted to be present here to unveil 150 sq. meter wall mural of father of nation, Mahtma Gandhi, which is made of terracotta kullads. The image is a true reflection of Gandhi ji’s belief in the potential of craftsmanship and village industries.”

This had been remarked by Vice President of India, Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu speaking after unveiling the grand wall mural of Mahatma Gandhi on the wall of NDMC Headquarter at Palika Kendra in New Delhi today on the 150th Birth Anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of cultural integrity and unity of the nation.

Shri Naidu said that the image of Mahatma Gandhi had been made in mural by using 3870 kullads of the soil received across the nation and the entire artwork was a great tribute to the Gandhi ji with the quote of Gandhi - “My Life is my Message”. And this message would definitely be spread from the heart of Capital city of the nation. While expressing his greetings to the artisans, he said that the magnificent creative art work of 150 potters across the nation would convey the message of truth and non-violence of Gandhi Ji to not only in the country but across the overseas.

He further said Gandhi Ji specially cared for the marginalized. He was strong proponent of Gram Swaraj and truly believed that development of villages was vital for the development of the country. And added that let each one of us shape a new India and Gandhiji and other leaders had dreamt of just as the potters have given shape to a dream creation through their deft hands.

On this occasion, State Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Giriraj Singh informed that on the 150th birth anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhi, Khadi and village industries commission – KVIC had installed this wall mural which symbolizes the cultural integrity and unity of the nation.

Shri Singh further said that this mission unite and highlights of the cottage industries from all over India is a joint effort of highly skilled potters from all over the country to give a tribute to Gandhi Ji. He informed that KVIC lunched a mission to transforming 400 villagers potters of the country into self reliant for employability in terms of proving them electrical pottery wheels.

Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi said that truth and non-violence are positive, meaningful and dynamic and Gandhiji combined it with a sense of responsibility for the welfare of people. His whole life was his experiment with truth and this mural would spread the message of his experiment of life, she said. This mural mission is reflecting the cultural unity and integrity of nation by the together soil from the different corner of the nation.

Outlining the details of the wall mural image of Gandhi Ji, Chairman-KVIC, Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena informed that the image had been made of the use of Kullads made by 150 potters all across the country. And added that each khullad would act as pixel to create a full image of the Mahatma. The quote “My life is my message” as inscribes at Gandhi Smarak Museum (in Gandhi Ji’s own handwriting at Gandhi Ashram) Ahmedabad, it has been used at the bottom of the art work. The entire artwork has made using total of such 3870 khullads.

Chairman, NDMC Shri Naresh Kumar said that it was really a matter of great privilege and honor to the NDMC that a grand wall mural of Mahatma Gandhi had been installed at the building NDMC Headquarter to commemorate his 150th Birth Anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of our national cultural integrity and unity of nation. And he hoped that it would help to generation to come to follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
