With 20 % annual growth , indian dry fruit market all set to double by the year 2021

Nuts and Dry fruits market riding on annual consumption growth of about 20  per cent in last couple of years in volume terms is expected to double by the year 2020 on rising demand of health conscious and nutritious food.

“The Indian dry fruits market is currently pegged at an estimated volume of approximately 450,000 tonnes. But, its size is estimated to reach over 1 million tonnes in volume by 2021 with the buoyant growth. The nuts and dry fruits industry in India is a very old one. However, in terms of demand, consumption has taken off only in recent years. From being a ‘luxury’ product, it has shifted to a ‘health and necessity’ category over the last few years. India consumes about 6-7 per cent of total nuts and dry fruits produced world wide  ”, said Mr. Raju Bhatia- Ambassador of International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) , Spain headquartered global body of nut and dry fruit industry in  India.

“A combination of factors such as increasing awareness of health needs and alternative medicine, increasing disposable income levels, better availability, right packaging, consistent quality, adequate product communication (labeling), newer products such as Cashewnuts, Almonds, Walnuts, Raisins ,Figs, Pistachios, Hazelnuts and  Pecan Nuts, , are leading to a healthy growth of about 20 per cent year on year for the Nuts and Dry Fruits industry in volume terms. This is much ahead of the CAGR growth rate of 5.3 per cent  for the dry fruit market and 6.5 per cent for the nuts market in the Asia-Pacific.

“ About 1000 global producers, importers, processors , marketers and nutrition experts from more than 60 countries  of the edible nuts and dry fruits industry with focus on growing Indian market will be meeting at the Three day 37th Edition of The world Nut and Dried Fruit Congress to beheld in Chennai, India for the First time from May 19-21 , 2017. Ravindranathan Nair, Ravi, for his contribution to the cashew business and pivotal role in accelerating the distribution of nuts worldwide. Excellence in Research Award will be bestowed to Dr. Richard Mattes-an active researcher in the area of nuts.  Excellence in Gastronomy Award will be awarded to Bukhara Restaurant, located at the ITC Maurya Hotel (New Delhi).  Innovation Award, will be decided by the delegates by voting through at the congress.
