The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said on Monday evening that of all the new cases, three were from London and one from eastern England. Victims describe themselves as gay bisexuals. The agency said that monkeypox is local, it has nothing to do with foreign travel and where and how the infection occurred is being investigated.

UKHSA’s Chief Medical Adviser Dr Susan Hopkins said, “We especially urge men and gay and bisexual people to be alert to any unusual rash. Also, without any delay urge to contact the sexual health service. “It (infection) is rare and unusual. The UKHSA is increasingly investigating the source of this infection as evidence suggests that close contact can lead to community transmission and spread of monkeypox virus.

He said that people who may have come in close contact with the seven known patients are being contacted to give them health advice. Hopkins said that of the four new cases, common contacts of two patients have been identified. The UKHSA said the virus does not spread easily between people and the UK population is at low risk.
