Virbhadra Singh urges people to help specially abled persons
INVC NEWS Shimla, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh during the concluding ceremony of the PRAYAAS- a creative workshop at Shimla on 4 January 2016. Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh today made a clarion call to all sections of the society to come forward in extending a helping hand to the specially abled people so that they could live a normal life. Shri Virbhadra Singh was speaking during the concluding ceremony of the PRAYAAS- a creative workshop organized by the NGO Performance Group of Arts in collaboration with National Health Mission, Himachal Pradesh for the specially abled people at Shimla. He said asylums, rehabilitation centers and homes provide basic facilities but the human touch of love, caring, nurturing and most important of all social acceptance was more important to bring a desirable change in their lives. The Chief Minister appreciated the endeavours of Performance Group of Arts for organising this workshop at the State Hospital for Mental Health and Rehabilitation, Shimla. He said such efforts go a long way in providing exposure to specially abled children which results in treating them early. He said the State Hospital for Mental Health and Rehabilitation was opened during the earlier regime of Congress government in the State with a concept to provide better and separate treatment facilities to the children and elders suffering from mental disorders. He said Performance Group of Arts was dedicatedly working for the cause of the suffering humanity through art and creativity. He stressed that more people should come forward to extend help to these people besides nurturing and enhancing their creative talents. The State government was committed for the welfare of the specially abled people and other weaker sections of the society by implementing various schemes, he added. The Chief Minister released the Souvenir of the workshop on the occasion and also distributed medals and certificates to the participants, faculty members of the State Hospital for Mental Health and Rehabilitation and trainee nurses of Shivalik Nursing college who assisted the specially abled children and elders during the workshop. President, Performance Group of Arts Dr. Suneela Sharma briefed about the workshop and other activities of the organisation. She said before PRAYAAS, the organisation worked on three other projects aimed at saving the youth from negative manifestations of stress like drug addiction, helping the senior citizens and nurturing the creative talent of the rural youth. A variety cultural programme was presented by the mentally challenged children and elders who left the audience spell-bound. Former MP and Vice Person, H.P Red Cross Society Smt. Pratibha Singh, Vice Chairman, National Council for Tribal development and MLA Shri Ravi Thakur, Vice Chairman, HPTDC Shri Hareesh Janartha, Director, Information & Public relations Dr. M.P Sood, Director, Health Services Dr. D.S Gurung, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Dr. H. R Sharma, Principal, Shivalik Nursing College, Smt. Shama Lohumi and other prominent persons of the town were present on the occasion.
