Washington  : US President Joe Biden said that he will not supply weapons to Israel that it could use to attack Rafah. Rafah is considered to be the last main stronghold of Hamas in Gaza and more than 1 million civilians have taken refuge there. Biden said in an interview with ‘CNN’ that the US is still committed to Israel’s defense and will supply it with missile defense systems and other defensive weapons, but if Israel takes action in Rafah. We will not supply arms and ammunition.

America has provided huge military assistance to Israel in the war against Hamas. After the unexpected attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7, America further increased the assistance it is providing to Israel. 1200 people were killed in the Hamas attack and about 250 people were taken prisoner by Islamic extremists.

This statement by Biden and his decision last week to stop the shipment of heavy bombs to Israel is the biggest sign yet of the growing ideological differences between the US administration and the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The US President said on Wednesday that Israel’s actions around Rafah have not yet “crossed the line”, but he reiterated that Israel still needs to take steps that protect the lives of civilians.

Biden said, “I have made it clear that if they enter Rafah, I will not supply weapons … although they have not yet moved to Rafah.” We are not turning our back on Israel, we just will not support Israel in the war in those areas.
