While continuing its winning spree in school sports competitions at national level, Haryana has bagged third position in 57th National School Games.           While stating this today, Haryana Education Minister, Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal said that players from State have performed well in National School Games. The players continued with their third position by scoring 450 points in these games. Haryana has bagged a total of 234 medals which included 69 gold, 78 silver and 87 bronze medals. She said that Haryana had also bagged third position in 56th National School Games whereas in 55thNational School Games it had bagged fourth position. Similarly, the players maintained the continuity at school level also.   She said that in 57th National School Games Delhi stood first and Maharashtra was second. While Manipur was fourth, Punjab was fifth, West Bengal was sixth, Kerala was seventh and Gujarat was at eighth position.She said that State Government is trying that every child should get opportunity to move further in sports with education. With a view to refine youth talent, State Government has started Sports and Physical Aptitude Test (SPAT). Under this scheme, 5000 children between eight and 19 years of age were given sports scholarships for which a sum of Rs 10 crore had been earmarked this year. She said that under Direct to Athlete Scheme, the money is being sent direct into the bank accounts of the players.  She said that State Government is of the view that children from rural areas should also get better sports facilities like that of urban areas, for which Rajiv Gandhi  stadia are being constructed in 222 villages. In more than 150 villages the construction works of such stadiums has been completed, she added.
