Two Years Rigorous Imprisonment To Then Divisional Manager Of United India Insurance Company And One Year Rigorous Imprisonment To His Wife In A Disproportionate Assets Case
INVC, Delhi, The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai has convicted Shri. D. Pugazhendhi, then Divisional Manager United India Insurance Company, Chennai and his wife in a disproportionate assets case. Shri D. Pugazhendhi was sentenced to undergo two years Rigorous imprisonment and his wife Smt Shanthi was sentenced to undergo one year Rigorous Imprisonment. A total fine Rs.15,000 /- was also imposed on him. The court has also ordered for attachment of immovable properties available in the hands of the accused persons to the tune of Rs. 37,98,752/-. A case was registered on 31.12.2009 against Shri D. Pugazhendhi, Divisional Manager United India Insurance Company, Vadapalani, Chennai and his wife Smt Shanthi on the allegations that during the period 2002 – 2009, Shri D.Pugazhendhi & on abetment by his wife Smt Shanthi, committed criminal misconduct & abused his official position and acquired assets disproportionate to his known source of income. During investigation, it was established that during the check period i.e. during 2002- 2009, Shri D. Pugazhendhi, had acquired total assets both movable & immoveable to the tune of Rs.1,02,47,991/-(approx) and incurred an expenditure of Rs.36,52,024/-(approx) as against his total income of Rs.78,00,799/-(approx). The disproportionate assets held by him against his known sources of income was Rs.60,99,216/- i.e 78.18 %. CBI filed charge sheet against Shri D. Pugazhendhi and his wife Smt Shanthi u/s 109 r/w sec 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 . On completion of the trial, the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai, pronounced judgement convicting Shri D. Pugazhendhi, and his wife.
