A Book reading session on the book titled “PALACE OF CLOUDS – A Memoir” written by Rajyashree Kumari, Princess of Bikaner will take place at Oxford Bookstore, Connaught Place. Reading will be done by Gita Devi, Maharani of Kapurtala. This book evokes the romance of the rugged desert kingdom of Bikaner and its Rajput royal family. It’s a richly woven tapestry encompassing five generations of an aristocratic family past and present. Tales of valour, battles and coronations, the splendor of the royal courts, the culture and traditions that made this Rathore state preeminent in the world all set against the backdrop of imposing palaces, rugged forts and hunting lodges, the magnificence of the gilded age of the Maharajas. The author brings to life a treasure trove of anecdotes and introduces us to world of elegance, sport and cosmopolitan culture.

The eminent guest  were present at the event , HE Maharani Gita Devi Kapurtala, HE Rajyashree kumari Princess of Bikaner ,kaanchan bugga, HH Tikka Shatrujit Singh of Kapurthala,Yuvraj Suryajit Singh, Dr.Gunita Singh,Aasha Chopra to name a few.

About the Author

RAJYASHREE KUMARI BIKANER is the daughter of Dr. Karni Singh, Maharaja of Bikaner.  She holds the unique distinction of having won at age seven, the National Air Rifle Championship.  She was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in 1969 at the age of sixteen.  Her great-grandfather Maharaja Ganga Singh was a great reformer, builder and an international figure of his time.  Her grandfather, Maharaja Sadul Singh, was the first prince to accede his state into the Indian Union at the time of Independence, thereby providing the important historic lead to others to follow suit, which led to the creation of a united India.

She is the Chairperson of Maharaja Ganga Singhji Trust and four other Public Charitable Trusts set up by late Maharaja Dr. Karni Singhji. She founded a public charitable trust in 1999, the Maharaja Dr. Karni Singhji Memorial Foundation. The Trusts are charged with distributing funds across a wide range of activities such as medical, sports and culture.

She is life member of the INTACH (Indian National Trust for art and Cultural Heritage), She is a passionate animal lover and is member of PETA, India (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

She is keen admirer of art and architecture and is actively involved is preservation of ancestral forts, places and cenotaphs in Bikaner. She has authored two more books titled- The Lallgarh Palace: Home of the Maharajas of Bikaner – 2009, and Maharajas of Bikaner – 2012.
