Traders in support of rally for rivers

INVC NEWS Chandigarh ,

A meeting of Chandigarh Traders Association Sector 17 was held today under the president ship of Sh. Kamaljit Singh Panchhi to discuss and support the campaign of Rally for Rivers launched by Sadhguru of Isha Foundation. It was decided in the meeting to support the campaign because our rivers are dying. Ganga, Krishna, Narmada, Kaveri – many of our great rivers are depleting fast. If we do not act now, the legacy we hand over to the next generation will be one of conflict and deprivation. These rivers have nurtured and nourished us for thousands of years. It is time we return the favor by nurturing and nourishing them back to health, Mr. Panchhi added. Mr. Panchhi said many of the smaller rivers have already vanished. Flood as well as draught are becoming increasingly frequent, as rivers turn unruly during the monsoon and vanish once the rainy season is over. The simplest solution to rejuvenate India’s rivers is to maintain a minimum of one kilometer tree cover on riversides. This will ensure our rivers are fed throughout the year by the moist soil. This will also aid in reducing floods, drought and soil loss. Panchhi further said, due to the pressures of population and development, our perennial rivers are becoming seasonal. Today we have 75% less water and by 2030, we will have only 50% of the water that we need for our survival. Mr. Panchhi appeals to all Trader Association and Resident Welfare Associations of the city to come forward to participate and support the campaign of Rally for Rivers by the simplest way – Vote to save our rivers by giving a missed call to 8000980009. Your missed call will help in the creation of a positive river policy to revive our precious rivers. Please don’t forget to encourage everyone you know to give a missed call too. All the members present in the meeting assured that they will guide their family members and friends to participate and support the Rally for Rivers campaign.
