State Government would explore possibilities of replacing mobile towers with environment friendly Tower Tube system and decongest the hill tops from increasing number of tower. This was stated by Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, in a meeting with a high level delegation of Erricson World Swedish team headed by Shri Tony Ficrentincs, Vice President-Commercial and accompanied by Shri Magnus Fagerberg, System Manager and Shri Kapil Mittal, Head-Chennai Sales, here last evening.
Chief Minister said that telecom services were experiencing rapid updating and changes in the communication system all over the world. He said that Himachal Pradesh was one of the few states of the country where communication network was strong and number of mobile customers was increasing rapidly. He said that a large number of mobile towers of different companies had come up on hill tops all over the State which were emerging as eye soars to the nature lovers, especially environmentalists. He said that State Government was environmentally a very conscious State and all out efforts were being made to protect environment in participation with the people. He said that since the proposed Tower Tube system was environment friendly, having capacity to provide service to large number of mobile users and were being operated with solar and wind clean energy without any air conditioning requirements. He said that it would not be causing any environmental hazards and more so it would be a self sustaining futuristic common infrastructural facility to the local people as well. He said that the giant steel structures were presenting anti-environment look and not much land would be acquired for erection of Tower Tubes.
Prof. Dhumal said that the new system would help in strengthening tourism in the State and provide people eco-friendly tower facilities and, internet, WIFI, broadband, 3G and 4G services would be available down to village level due to the latest technological facilities available under the system. He said that the State Government would be looking into all related aspects and consider the proposal for implementation in the State.
