Three Years Imprisonment To Then Deputy Chief Controller Of Explosives For Possession Of Assets Disproportionate To Known Sources Of Income

The Special Judge-II, CBI, Ernakulam(Kerla) has convicted Shri A.K. Shamsuddin, former Dy. Chief Controller of Explosives, Ernakulam, U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act and sentenced him to undergo three Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs. Five lakh in a Disproportionate Assets(DA) case.            The investigation revealed that the accused Shri A.K. Samsuddin while functioning as Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives at Rourkela & Cochin, had acquired movable & immovable assets disproportionate to his known source of income in his name and in the name of his family members. During the check period from 01.01.97 to 31.10.2002, he was found in possession of properties & pecuniary resources to the tune of Rs. 12.80/- lakhs (approx).   This accused was also trapped by CBI, while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3000/- on 07.10.2002, at his office in Ernakulam in connection with issue of short firer permit under Explosive Act. During searches at the office & residential premises of the accused, huge deposits of cash investment by him in his name and in the joint names of himself & family members were unearthed. Accordingly, a DA case was registered against Shri A.K.Samsuddin as an off shoot of the main trap case and on finalisation of investigation, a charge sheet U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act was filed before the Court of Special Judge-II, CBI, Ernkualam on 20.07.2004.   Earlier, he was sentenced to undergo one year Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 20,000/- on 09.08.2006 in a bribery case.
