The Meteorological Department has issued alerts about potential cloudbursts and heavy rainfall in the upcoming days, particularly in the areas of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and upper parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Meteorological Department’s recent alerts have caught the attention of disaster management agencies across the affected regions. A senior official from the department has highlighted the severity of the situation, especially in the upper districts of Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.

The state has experienced heavy rainfall for over 35 hours, leading to the closure of more than 500 roads due to landslides and flooding. Prominent national highways like Chandigarh-Manali, Kalka-Shimla, and Shimla-Bilaspur are blocked at multiple points. An orange alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department for the state, predicting persistent heavy rains across various regions, including Shimla, Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, and Solan.

Mrityunjay Mahapatra, the Director General of the Meteorological Department, has shed light on the unprecedented nature of these events.
