The World Tourism Day celebrations got kicked off today morning by organizing ‘Run for Tourism

INVC, Chandigarh, The celebration for World Tourism Day started today at Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh with the start of a series of events from. The World Tourism Day celebrations got kicked off today morning by organizing ‘Run for Tourism’. The event started from the UIHMT department, PU and reached Student Centre via PU Vice Chancellor’s office. The procession included Dholis and camels. As Dholis represent our culture and camels are the only animals who uses water most judiciously and thus true match with the Water Conservation theme of this year’s World Tourism Day. The run will be flagged off by MD, Haryana Tourism Corporation Mrs Sumita Misra. She appreciated the efforts of students by highlighting the scope of tourism industry and importance of water in our lives.  Four girl students of UIHMT on the back of two camels led the procession along with two dolis. On the beat of dhol’s students raised the slogans of save water to spread awareness to public at large.  ‘Run for Tourism’ when reached student centre, a skit on a social issue was performed by the students of UIHMT. Before this Director UIHMT formally welcomed the dignitaries present during the flag off ceremony. Mr.  Gulati- Regional Officer AICTE Chandigarh as Guest of Honour, Dean Research PU, Prof. Lalit K Bansal, Dean Alumni Relation PU, Prof. Neelam Grover, PU Controller of Examination, Prof. Parvinder Singh- blessed the students with all word of praise for their efforts.  Director UIHMT Prof. R K Gupta addressed the gathering about the importance of the theme chosen for the world tourism day celebrations. He said that dholis represent our culture and camels are the only animals who uses water most judiciously and thus true match with the theme.   PU Dean Student Welfare Prof. Navdeep Goyal, addressed the students and gathering at the Student Centre. He appreciated the efforts of students and faculty in UIHMT to move on the path of success. Thereafter the procession moved back to UIHMT.
