The Sports of Uttarakhand government opens mountaineering training institute

The Sports of Uttarakhand government has recently opened a mountaineering training institute- Pandit Nain Singh Surveyor Mountaineering Training Institute , Munsyari, located in Balati Farms.  The Institute will offer various courses- NIM , HMI , ABVIMAS , JIM , NIMAAS. Ms. Reena Dharmshaktu is heading PNSMTI and has been appointed as OSD ( Officer on Special Duty.

Located at a height of 8600 feet it is the highest civilian training Institute. Its immediate program is Basic Ski Course from 15 February 2016 to 28 February 2016, for which the fees is Rs 9000.00 . The fees covers the lodging, fooding, training and equipment. At the end of the course, the students will get a certificate from the Sports Department of Uttarakhand.

Reena Dharmshaktu, OSD, PNSMTI said that the tourism dept of Uttarkhand has started a special helicopter service from Haldwani to Munsyari and back . The cost is around Rs 16000/ both ways.

Dharmshaktu has over 20 years of experience in the outdoors activities, be it mountaineering expeditions in India and abroad or personal exploratory trips. She is the first Indian woman to ski from the coast of Antarctica to South Pole covering a distance of 900 kilometers in 38 days. She represented India in 2009 Commonwealth for an all Women expedition to Antarctica.She has also been an instructor of mountaineering in USA and India and have seen students over the years transform into more confident personalities after being exposed to adventure.
