Reviewing the ongoing works of Slum Rehabilitation Project, the Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Mr. Shivraj V. Patil gave certain directions to the concerned officials. He said that the proposed water supply to the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme by providing tube well and boosting systems is not assured system of water supply. Therefore, it should be strengthened by providing municipal water as being provided to other part of the City. In this regard even if any pipeline is to be laid, the same should be provided by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh to ensure that municipal water reaches to all slum rehabilitation colonies, he added.
The Administrator further instructed that individual plastic water tanks provided over the rooftop of the small flats may be dispensed with by providing common overhead water tank so that the space available can be utiilised for solar water heating system. In this regard, Municipal Corporation should work out the modalities to charge the water consumption charges on average basis.
Mr. Patil asked the officials to ensure the completion of remaining work in a stipulated time, so that, the 10016 flats already constructed can be handed over at the earliest possible to the beneficiaries.
Earlier giving brief regarding the Slum Rehabilitation Project, Mr. Satya Gopal, Chairman Chandigarh Housing Board said that the Chandigarh Administration in 2006 decided to rehabilitate all the existing slum dwellers of 18 colonies at eight locations in the City. Chandigarh Administration further notified a Small Flat Schemes for providing one time solution to the problem of settlement of slum dwellers. Chandigarh Housing Board was designated at Nodal agency for implementation of the slum rehabilitation scheme by the Chandigarh Administration.
He said that the two proposals were approved by Government of India under JNNURM for construction of 25728 small flats at eight locations in the Chandigarh. Under Phase-1 construction of 6368 small flats and 19360 flats under Phase – 2, total at the cost of Rs. 564.93 crore were approved.
The Chairman said that so far, Chandigarh Housing Board constructed 12736 flats at five locations i.e. Sector 49, Sector 38(W), Ram Darbar, Dhanas and Mauli Jagran – II. Out of these 2720 flats has already been handed over to the beneficiares.Remaining 10016 small flats at Dhanas and Mauli Jagran – II are complete except the completion of Sewerage Treatment Plant, Load Distribution System and peripherial trunk services which are to be completed by 31st March, 2013 in Dhanas and 30th April, 2013 in Mauli Jagran- II. Remaining 12992 flats out of 25728 flats, are being planned to have two room accommodations instead of one room and the revised project cost of which is under approval with Ministery of Finance and Ministry of Home Affairs. Once the requisition approval is received, the construction of said flats will be immediately started. Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Mr. K.K. Sharma, Adviser to the Administrator, Mr. M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr. Anil Kumar, Home Secretary, Mr. V.K. Singh, Finance Secretary, Mr. Mohd. Shayin, Deputy Commissioner, Mrs. Sumit Kaur, Chief Architect , Chief Engineer and other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration.
