2nd Infrastructure Excellence Awards evening was held at Hotel The Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi to honour the PSU’s / Corporate from various Infrastructure sectors like Roads & Highways, Urban Development, Railways, Aviation, Power & Alternate Power, Ports, Townships, Tourism, Education , Projects under PPP mode of Development and above all, Finance & Investment for the Infrastructure development. The corporate which are doing good work to build Infrastructure and generating employment were recognized and honored at the platform. Mr. Kamal Nath, Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development was the Chief Guest at the evening. Dignitaries present included Mr. S. K. Goel-CMD, IIFCL ,Mr. Arvind Mahajan-ED, KPMG. Mr. D.S. Mendhiratta, Managing Director, SRS Expo & Coventions Inc. who is the Strength behind the 2nd Infrastructure Excellence Awards function, welcomed the Chief Guest, all the participants, Awardees and sponsors in his welcome Address. Mr. Kamal Nath, Union Minister, while addressing the audience said that the present government has a focus on exponential growth in spite of the slowdown in world economy. He talked about urbanization of small towns so as to curb migration of youth to bigger cities. Pitching for Public-Private partnership in infrastructure development, Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath on Monday said Metro operation exemplifies the success of the PPP model. “The Metro operation is a successful PPP model and it can be adopted in construction of road, port connectivity and other infrastructure projects”, Nath said at an award function in Delhi.

He said even small townships can be made on PPP basis. The Infrastructure Excellence Awards was orgainsed to honour PSUs and corporates from various infrastructure sectors.  “We are looking for innovative ways for infrastructure development and PPP is the answer for future growth”, he said, adding, “We have to devise a suitable PPP model for India.”

Admitting that India is lagging behind in terms of infrastructure, he said, “In India we are talking of building infrastructure but in the US and Europe they are talking of renewal infrastructure. So, in India, we are catching up with the past.”

Referring to the urban areas, he said, “Cities have exceeded their carrying capacities including the parking lot, sewage, water supply. The question is how to meet the requirement.” He also said the Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), was being reassessed.
