The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) elects new office bearers

Shri Amarjit Chopra, a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ), has been elected as the President of ICAI for the year 2010-11 by the Twenty First Council here today. Shri G. Ramaswamy was elected as the Vice-President of the Institute.

Shri Amarjit Chopra has more than three decades of standing and during his tenure in the Central Council he has been the Chairman of the Accounting Standards Board, Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, and Corporate Laws Committee for two years each and has been the Chairman of Expert Advisory Committee, Financial Reporting Review Board, Committee on Corporate Governance and Committee on Internal Audit for an year each.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, working under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is the sole regulator of accountancy profession in India. It is the second largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the World, with a strong tradition of service to the public interest and to the Indian economy. Today the strength of Chartered Accountant fraternity in the country has grown to 1, 61,000 and students base to over 6,20,000.
