The Prime Minister of India,  Narendra Modi, addressed the National Rozgar Mela via video conferencing on 13th April 2023. During the event, he distributed around 71,000 appointment letters to newly recruited candidates in various government departments and organizations. These appointees are from different parts of the country and will join various positions under the Government of India, such as Train Manager, Station Master, Sr. commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Inspector, Sub Inspectors, Constable, Stenographer, Junior Accountant, Postal Assistant, Income Tax Inspector, Tax Assistant, Sr Draughtsman, JE/Supervisor, Assistant Professor, Teacher, Librarian, Nurse, Probationary Officers, PA, and MTS, among others. Moreover, these newly recruited candidates will have the opportunity to enroll themselves in Karmayogi Prarambh, an online orientation course for all new government department appointees.

During the event, the Prime Minister greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi and congratulated the newly recruited candidates and their families. The Prime Minister said that the government is committed to providing the right opportunities for the youth of the country, and the government recruitment process is taking place rapidly in NDA-ruled states from Gujarat to Assam and Uttar Pradesh to Maharashtra. He also mentioned that recruitment letters for more than 22,000 teachers were distributed in Madhya Pradesh the day before. “This Rozgar Mela is proof of our commitment towards the youth of the nation,” he added.

The Prime Minister stated that India is one of the fastest-growing economies globally and is seen as a bright spot amidst the global challenges of recession and pandemic. He highlighted that today’s New India is moving with policies and strategies that have opened doors for new possibilities. Since 2014, India has adopted a proactive approach, resulting in a situation where the third decade of the 21st century is witnessing employment and self-employment opportunities that were unimaginable earlier. The youth is finding new sectors that did not even exist ten years ago. The Prime Minister gave examples of startups and Indian youth’s enthusiasm, stating that startups have created more than 40 lakh direct or indirect jobs. He also mentioned drones and the sports sector as new avenues of employment.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the thinking and approach of Aatmnirbhar Bharat Abhiyan go beyond adopting swadeshi and “vocal for local.” Aatmnirbhar Bharat Abhiyan is an abhiyan of creating crores of employment opportunities from villages to cities. The Prime Minister cited examples of indigenously made modern satellites and semi-high-speed trains. More than 30,000 LHB coaches have been manufactured in India in the last 8-9 years, creating thousands of jobs in India.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the role of investment in infrastructure in employment generation. He said that emphasis on capital expenditure is creating infrastructure like roads, railways, ports, and buildings. During the present government’s tenure, capital expenditure has grown four-fold, resulting in numerous job opportunities.

The Prime Minister gave the example of the developments before and after 2014, mentioning the Indian Railway and pointing out that in the past seven decades before 2014, only 20,000 kilometers of electrification of railway tracks took place, whereas 40,000 kilometers of electrification of railway tracks took place in just the last seven years.

The Prime Minister concluded his speech by saying that the new recruits are the strength of the nation, and the government is committed to their well-being and career growth. He urged them to work hard and take the country forward, as they are the ones who will create a better future for India.
