Chandigarh, December 9th: The Chandigarh Ibsen Theatre Festival being
organised by the Chandigarh Administration is a festival with a
difference where the Cinema actors have descended from Norway,
Lithuania and south India to present their shows. The third day of the
festival unveiled with a play” Peer Gynt” directed by Deepan Sivraman,
the winner of seven prestigious Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards,
2010, the celebrated scenographer, playwright, visual artist,
researcher and theatre
It is a unique play by Ibsen that deals with
complexities of life and
its journey. It’s a story of Peer Gynt who goes on Journey to conquer
the world. We see him healthy, wealthy aged man who has learned to
exploit any situation to his advantage and his aim to become emperor
leaves him to a mad house where he preside over a scene of death and
destruction and then suddenly he finds his soul, he comes back home
and his woman is now waiting for him and so does God. The play has
very contemporary subject. It is about the journey of man. The
Character of Peer Gynt is there within all human beings, within all of
us. Its universal character. It is a conflict that is inherent within
everyone.
