The Vice President of India, Shri M. Hamid Ansari released a book entitled “A Leaf turns Yellow” edited by Shri Muzaffar Ali at a function here today. Addressing on the occasion, Shri Ansari said that the book depicts the cultural history of Awadh by going through all chapters of it in totality. Also it highlights the composite rural culture of north India especially of Awadh. He congratulated Shri Ali for bringing out such a valuable book. Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Karan Singh, Chairman, ICCR and Dr. Mushirul Hasan, DG, ASI were present on the occasion. Edited by the filmmaker and social worker Shri Muzaffar Ali, the book is a thoroughly researched account of Sufism in (erstwhile) Awadh, India and introduces to its history, traditions, sub-cultures, institutions and poetry. Each essay in this anthology is by a renowned scholar. Together, they explore the ways in which Sufism influenced, and was influenced by, social mores and expressive traditions, emerging as a way of living and thinking unique to the region.
