Tanuja Jain- A Ceramicst Artist

unnamed“Each piece of ceramic to me is like a piece of art, but with a many different dimensions – whether it is the form, the shape, the glaze, the different types of firing.  I have been experimenting and learning ceramics for over a decade”, Tanuja Jain said. Tanuja representing a functional genre of ceramic for domestic use. She does experiment with altering, layering, engobs, slips, glaze, and carving, anything to create a piece with a unique character. She experienced that hand built is too busy and wheel thrown is too perfect, so put it together to create usable tableware to create different moods.  She strives for purity of form that will emphasize the quality of clay and surface finish. The intimacy and directions of clay and relationships of the human hand to the materials, coupled with the organic nature of the wood fired process engages her. Pots look like paintings with spaces inside. Tanuja Jain born & brought up in Kolkata. She began her career with a degree in design and turned her creativity toward pottery with training from Delhi Blue Pottery Studio. She has learnt various techniques of firing under the aegis of famed international potters. She learnt smoke firing from Jane Gibson, naked Raku from Tim Andrews, crystal firing from Wally house and porcelain from Takashi. She has attended workshop in Japan, San Francisco and Jingdezhen in China. In each workshop she learnt new techniques unique to that region. Her most recent workshop in Jingdezhen “The Ceramic Metropolis of China” exposed her to an 1800 hundred year old dynasty of working with porcelain. _________________________________________
