Christmas Eve celebrations started at Sukhna Lake with CITCO arranging a special treat for underprivileged children. Around 100 kids from different areas of Chandigarh were given free joy ride on Hop on Hop off coach of CITCO and were brought to Sukhna Lake. The Rock Band titled “Sounds of Heaven” welcomed and gave a special Christmas performance and thrilled the kids with their Carol Singing at Sukhna Lake. Santa Claus came on fully decked up in a motor boat and distributed gifts and chocolates to under privileged children to make them part of the Main stream of Society. The children had a gala time in the morning as they got their photographs clicked with Santa Claus. The kids enjoyed the delicious lunch with Santa and were seen off with Gifts presented by Santa bringing smile on their faces. The X mas tree was flocked by small tiny tots to have a glimpse of the decoration and the colourful gift boxes. Sounds of Heaven are a Church based Christian Band formed by Pastor Randeep Mathews in the year 2007. During the event, Hara Punjab Khara Samaj (an NGO) in collaboration with CITCO , Celebrated ‘Green Christmas’ by distributing plants amongst public at Sukhna Lake Chandigarh. On this occasion more than 100 saplings were distributed especially to visitors. The main objective of the exercise was to bring awareness among the residents & visitors for maintaining the ecology keeping the environment clean and avoiding littering of the city beautiful. While addressing the public Dr Zora Singh Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University & said that on this Christmas Instead of gifting some expensive gifts, plants should be gifted to friends, relatives and near and dear ones. He suggested, “A tree plantation drive should be launched at the community level” for making Chandigarh more green. The Chandigarh Administration is organizing “The New Year Extravaganza” 2012 from 25th December -31st December 2012 at, Plaza Sector -17, Chandigarh. A week long Celebrations will have series of high end entertainment activities throughout the last week of this year. The celebrations will have dances, live performances- musical nites, comedian performances and much more awaiting the tourists and city residents of tricity. The celebrations commencing on the Christmas Day, 25th December, will have the festivities supported by Business Promotion Council Sector 17. The Sector 17 Plaza will be illuminated with electric stars, trees will be decorated, showrooms will have special Christmas and New Year decorations, special Christmas tree will be erected in the shopping Plaza and Santa Claus will be distributing sweets amongst kids. The special attraction in sector 17 shall be a 30 feet high Christmas tree. On 26th December, there will be live performance by Sounds of Heaven at 6 pm rolling out Christmas Carols and Rock numbers. The New Year extravaganza will have breath taking start with the Rock Band performance. Visitors and onlookers would witness live performance by a renowned this special Christmas band “. Whereas on 27th December, The local Train, renowned band of India will enthrall the city on their English and hindi hits. To add Punjabi touch, the New Year Extravaganza shall showcase Punjabi Folk Dances and Musical nite on December 28. On 28th December, Prominent Punjabi singer Sharry Mann who has various successful albums will perform at Plaza Sector 17. He is a big hit among the Punjabi Youth. On 30th December, another Sufi Singer Manak Ali, shall perform and mesmerize the audience with his melodies. A Fashion Fiesta nite shall be held on 30th December, the Models shall walk the ramp to showcase the attires designed by renowned designers. On the concluding day, there will be a DJ-Night. The DJ’s tracks will heave the energy levels of the kids, visitors and tourists at the Plaza to welcome the New Year. The DJ nite will belt out the popular numbers from recent flicks. The kids can rock the dance floor with their foot tapping steps. In all, the New Year Extravaganza event will be truly a colorful , exciting for all at Shopping Plaza Sector 17.
