Upon its departure from the body, the soul undergoes a transformation, becoming the size of a thumb and taking on an appearance resembling that of a deceased person. This miniature form of the soul is then presented to Yamraj, the ruler of Yamalok, where a meticulous account of the individual’s actions throughout their life is revealed.
The 24-Hour Sojourn
Yamraj detains the soul for 24 hours, during which time the soul is subjected to a cosmic audit. Every deed, both good and bad, committed by the individual during their earthly existence is laid bare. This process serves as a judgment of sorts, determining the soul’s ultimate destination. It is during this critical period that the soul’s fate is decided.
The Soul’s Return and Witnessing the Cremation
Following the judgment, the soul is returned to the location from which the Yamdoots initially took it. Here, the soul lingers for a period of 13 days, during which it observes the cremation of its former physical body. A celestial plane arrives to carry them to Vishnu Lok, where they are granted eternal residence in the divine abode of Lord Vishnu, thus transcending the cycle of birth and death.
