Haridwar, Kashi  : Nag Panchami is celebrated on the Shukla Panchami of the Shravan month in the Hindu calendar. This year, Nag Panchami will be celebrated on Monday, August 21, 2023. The Sawan Shukla Panchami Tithi (the fifth day of the waxing phase of the moon) will start on August 21, 2023, at 12:21 pm and end on August 22, 2023, at 2:00 pm.

On Nag Panchami, it is customary to worship snakes, as it is believed to bring spiritual power, wealth, and desired results. In Hindu tradition, snakes are revered, and offering milk to the snake deity is considered auspicious. Various snake deities like Anant, Vasuki, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Kulir, Karkat, Shankha, Kalia, and Pingal are worshipped on this day.

To perform the Nag Panchami worship, wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and observe a fast. Arrange turmeric, roli (vermilion), rice, flowers, a lamp, and milk in a plate. Visit a temple and offer these items to the serpent god, making sure to mix ghee and sugar in the raw milk before offering it. Perform the Aarti (a ritual of waving a lit lamp) of Nag Devta (the snake deity) and meditate on Nag Devta in your mind. You can also listen to the story of Nag Panchami and conclude by praying to Nag Devta to fulfill your wishes.

Please note that these practices may vary across different regions and communities, so it is advisable to follow the customs and traditions prevalent in your specific cultural context.
